POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title:General Manager

Position is based in the remote Northern Territory town of Wadeye

Salary: General Manager $110,000 – 140,000

Wadeye is a large community of about 3000 people and is situated about 500 kilometres southwest of Darwin in the Vic Daly region. The Thamarrurr Regional Authority Aboriginal Corporation (TRAAC) was established by 22 clans of the Thamarrurr region to represent people of the region in relation to their spiritual, cultural, social, political and contemporary way of life.

TRAAC’s vision is to deliver positive lifestyle outcomes for its residents by strengthening local leadership and uptake of responsibilities.

Description of the role

The General Manager (GM) will work with the TRAAC Board to provide advice and guidance in the implementation of the Board’s strategic vision for social and political progress in the region.

The General Manager will work with the TRAAC Board so that they become recognised as a legitimate decision-making organisation.

The General Manager with the assistance of other resources will strive to improve the management, finance, social engagement, liaison and research capacity of TRAAC to ensure that agreed deliverables and targets are met.

The General Manager will be responsible for the provision of financial and other reports to funding agencies in a timely fashion.

The General Manager will assist with the development of appropriate plans that link the activities of governments, NGO’s and others in the provision of services to people in the region.

The General Manager will work toward the up skilling of local Aboriginal people so that they take on key roles within the wider community and will report through regular meetings with the TRAAC Board and, will facilitate discussions about key needs, achievables and outcomes.

The General Manager will work in a collaborative way with other local organisations such as the Thamarrurr Development Corporation (TDC).

The successful applicants will work with the TRAAC Board to deliver results on a number of projects in Wadeye and associated homelands around social development. The ability to communicate effectively and build productive relationships with a diverse range of government and non government stakeholders, particularly Aboriginal Australians, is essential to this position.

Strategic thinking and an understanding of the Aboriginal Affairs reform agenda; particularly with regard to ‘Closing the Gap’ initiatives and high order of stakeholder management skills are required for this position.
