SUBJECT PRONOUNS – ENGLISH/SPANISH

Objective: Review English subject pronouns in English

1.  What is a subject pronoun? Subject pronouns replace nouns that are the subject of their clause. In the 3rd person, subject pronouns are often used to avoid repetition of the subject's name. I, you, she, he, it, we, and they

EXAMPLES

§  Iam 16.

§  Youseem lost.

§  Jim is angry, andhewants Sally to apologize.

§  This table is old.Itneeds to be repainted.

§  Weare not going.

§  Theydon't like pancakes.

2.  Students will complete the English “subject worksheet”

3.  Activity Instructions: Students will work in groups of 4’s or 5’s. You must have at least 1 boy or 1 girl in your group. Your group will NEED all of the ENGLISH subject pronouns from ONE student’s flashcards.

Step 1: Decide on the leader

Step 2: Leader SHOULD have ONLY 6 cards (I, you, she, he, we, they)

Step 3: Leader will pull out a “subject pronoun” in English

·  If the leader selects “I” – leader will point to himself/herself and say “I” – everyone in the group will do the same (pointing to themselves) and will say “I”. – DO THIS 3x’s

·  If the leader selects “you” – the leader will point to someone else and say “you”, again have everyone follow along. Do this 3x’s

·  If the leader selects “she” or “he” – the leader will point to a girl/boy and everyone will follow along.

·  If the leader selects “we”, he/she will grab a couple of students in a group hug and say “we”. Everyone should be in a group as they do this.

·  If the leader selects “they”, point at other students in the classroom and say, “they” and

get everyone to do the same.

Now the LEADER will have all of the subject pronouns on one desk/floor (make sure everyone can reach the cards). The LEADER is going to touch each card and get everyone to point and say the word – start slowly ("I" and point to yourself, "you" and point at someone else, etc.) and go through the pronouns going faster and faster. This is great fun and very confusing when it really speeds up. REMEMBER THIS IS IN ENGLISH.
