My name is Gerard McAleese. I am a fully qualified and GDC registered dentist from Portglenone, Co. Antrim.

As you may be are aware, the GAA recently changed its rules in relation to the wearing of sports mouth guards for gaelic footballers. The new rule now makes it mandatory for all players to wear mouth guards during training and matches. The rule comes in to effect in January 2013 for all underage/juvenile players and the following year (January 2014) for all senior/adult players.Being from a GAA background and current GAA player I recognise the difficulties that may arise for both players and clubs in complying with this rule. I have therefore set up ClubMouthguards.com to supply clubs with quality, affordable, custom-made sports mouth guards to GAA clubs on a bulk basis.

Mouth Guards: The mouth guards we provide are made by fully GDC registered dental technicians and fully conform to UK Medical Devices Regulations for custom made appliances. They are also approved by ‘Bitemark.’ - A scheme which recognises quality UK dental appliances. Custom made mouth guards are recognised by the GAA as the best available mouth guard for GAA players in terms of comfort, fit and retention. Unfortunately they are the most expensive type when bought on an individual basis.

Our Service: The service provided is quite unique:

  • Our dental team will visit your club at a pre-arranged time. For example this may be a training session or juvenile registration evening.
  • At the visit we will take an impression / mould of each player requiring a mouth guard.
  • From the impression the individuals customised mouth guard is produced.
  • When the mouth guards are ready we return to the club for fitting. It is not absolutely necessary for each individual to be present at this fitting stage as each mouth guard usually fits comfortably without any problems; however the service is there for any individual wanting to avail of this. The mouth guards come with fitting/maintenance instructions and a hygienic storage box.
  • The whole process usually takes 10 – 14 days.

Pricing and Discount:The cost of each mouth guard is competitively priced at £35 per person. This is approximately 15% reduction on our website prices. A similar mouth guard of this quality bought directly from your dentist could cost each individual between £50 to £70 from the dentist directly. There is no additional charge for the visit to the club for the impression or fitting. To avail of this discount a bulk order of at least 35 mouth guards in your club colours must be placed. For your club the design would be as shown. (Further discount may be available on discussion upon placement of a significantly large order.)

To simplify payment an invoice will be charged to the club directly. As a club you then have the option of charging your members full price or a subsidised price of the full amount.

Age Groups:Our mouth guards are suitable for those aged 10 and over. We can therefore provide for all age groups from under 12 right through to Senior. Unfortunately those younger than this are not suitable. For those aged under 16 a parent should ideally be present for consent purposes. Failing this I will forward a simple consent form for the parent to sign prior to the 1st visit.

All necessary contact details are as above. Feel free to visit the web site; or our facebook page; for more information and pictures of the mouth guards.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Gerard McAleese (BDS)
