H.R. No. 8

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The recent passing of Henry Max Umscheid on September 18, 1996, at the age of 63, has brought a great loss to the family and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and

WHEREAS, Born in Austin on September 28, 1932, to Henry Miles and Almetta Umscheid, Mr.Umscheid was a devoted family man who, throughout his life, displayed unwavering commitment to and tremendous love for the members of his family, whether as husband, father, son, brother, or grandfather; and

WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, Mr.Umscheid began a distinguished career that found him employed in many different capacities in the field of electrical engineering; in 1961, he found a home with Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, one of the state's largest rural electric cooperatives, and was eventually named general manager, a post he held since 1969; and

WHEREAS, Mr.Umscheid also worked for Pedernales Electric and the Lower Colorado River Authority, and he played a prominent role in developing rural electric cooperatives in Central Texas; as his reputation grew throughout the years, he remained a friend of the Lower Colorado River Authority and was known as a man who respected the opinions of others and was a true consensus builder; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his employment within the electric industry, Mr.Umscheid's expertise in his profession qualified him for service on the House Select Committee on Energy Matters and the National Rural Utilities Finance Corporation; and

WHEREAS, This generous and dedicated individual was a prominent member of his community, and his many contributions in behalf of his fellow citizens included directing the Lee County Counsel on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and serving as Lee County Democratic Chairman; he was also an active member of First United Methodist Church in Giddings, where he faithfully represented his fellow congregants in various offices; and

WHEREAS, Henry Max Umscheid was a man of rare compassion and integrity, and although his guidance and devotion will be missed by all who knew him, his spirit will live on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas Legislature hereby honor the memory of Henry Max Umscheid and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Gladys Umscheid; to his daughters, Pam Hobbs and her husband Jeff, Corrie Umscheid, and Krista UmscheidMt. Joy and her husband Greg Mt. Joy; to his grandchildren, Matt and Whitney Walsh; to his parents, Henry Miles and Almetta Umscheid; to his brother and sisterinlaw, Joe and June Umscheid; and to the many other friends and relatives of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Henry Max Umscheid.
