LPKF Laser & Electronics AG at SMT in Nuremberg

PCB prototyping and laser micromaterial processing when only the best will do

LPKF Laser & Electronics AG will be showcasing a complete prototyping solution and two world premieres at SMT from 5th to 7th of May in Nuremberg: the LPKF ProtoLaser U makes UV laser processing possible at an attractive entry price. The LPKF MicroLine 6000S laser system depanels assembled circuit boards on the VDI/VDE stand.

“The current crisis will produce winners: companies which concentrate now on innovative production methods and new products. With its laser systems and micromaterial processing expertise, LPKF is the right partner to make these technical steps possible, “ says Dr. Ingo Bretthauer, CEO of the German technology specialist LPKF Laser & Electronics AG, explaining the company’s participation at SMT.

Britta Schulz, Manager Rapid PCB Prototyping at LPKF Laser & Electronics AG, warmly invites customers and potential users to Hall 6, Stand 327, and adds “SMT is a very important show for us. We will be presenting solutions for micromaterial processing, in-house PCB prototyping, and printed circuit board processing.”

The main focus at the start is on a pro-environment production method for prototype printed circuit boards. LPKF will be showcasing a prototyping method at the stand which does everything from structuring the base materials, through-plating, labeling, and solder resists, to multilayer production and assembly – and all without polluting wet chemistry. This also solves a very important security problem because sensitive design data does not have to be sent out of the company. The product spectrum covers the whole process chain from unstructured base materials to assembled boards. The highlight is the LPKF ProtoLaser S – the only laser system worldwide that can structure laminated PCB materials. It opens up a new dimension in the structuring of analog and HF circuits on laminated or ceramic substrates. LPKF has optimized the prototyping processes with the ProtoLaser S to such an extent that it is now possible to produce mini and medium-sized series economically and quickly in house.

Two world premieres are on the agenda: the LPKF ProtoLaser U, already presented as a pre-series model at electronica in November, can now be ordered from May onwards. This system operates with a high-precision UV laser, and is therefore a kind of Swiss pocket knife in the micromaterial processing world: depanelling flexible or rigi-flex printed circuit boards, structuring invisible ITO layers, and gently processing ceramic materials – just some of the numerous applications opened up by this versatile tool. The LPKF ProtoLaser U is the most productive UV laser system on the market today, and ideal for applications in laboratories, development departments, and for mini-series production.

A second world premiere will be showcased in the VDI/VDE pavilion in Hall 6/ Stand 220. Under the heading “Innovations in printed circuit board technology – basis for complex electronic systems“ the brand new LPKF MicroLine 6000 S demonstrates its production efficiency in an SMT production line for printed circuit boards.

The UV laser depanels assembled boards from mulit-image PCBs without any mechanical stress to the sensitive structures or components. The method requires no tools or special clamping devices – and there are also no negative effects from dust. The non-contact technique reduces the number of break-out tabs needed, shrinks the size of the printed circuit boards, and boosts product quality.

About LPKF

Short Version

LPKF Laser & Electronics AG showcases innovative laser technologies

LPKF Laser & Electronics AG’s stand at this year’s SMT from 5th to 7th of May will present the whole spectrum of Rapid PCB Prototyping. In Hall 6, Stand 327, the company from Garbsen in Germany will showcase a comprehensive solution for chemical-free PCB prototyping: from unstructured base materials to assembled boards. The highlight is the LPKF ProtoLaser S which opens up new dimensions in the structuring of analog and HF circuits on laminated or ceramic substrates.

In addition, LPKF will also be presenting the ProtoLaser U: a particularly productive system with a UV laser source which opens up completely new options in labs, development departments, and for mini-series production.

LPKF is also represented on the VDI/VDE pavilion in Hall 6/ Stand 220 with a brand new LPKF MicroLine 6000 S. LPKF will demonstrate here how the UV production laser system can be seamlessly integrated within a production line, where it depanels assembled circuit boards.
