Greeting Fellow ApHC Members -
My name is Mary Ann Page and I am running for the ApHC Board of Directors. - Territory II Zone B. I was given my first horse, an Appaloosa, at the age of 13 and I have never looked back. My love for this breed is deeply imbedded in my heart. I feel that I have the unique qualifications, energy, enthusiasm and commitment to represent the members of Zone B in this important decision making capacity..
My participation at the ApHC regional level for the past 16 years has brought me many amazing experience and a wealth of friends. Most recently, I have been serving as an Arizona Appaloosa Association (AAA) Board of Director since 2005. As president of the Arizona Appaloosa Association in 2011, I demonstrated my leadership capabilities through the achievement of the 2011 ApHC Exemplary Regional Club of the Year. The AAA concentrated on actively promoting the Appaloosa horse through a variety of venues. Our club spearheaded the Arizona Appaloosa Facebook page and that page now has over 1300 "friends". I implemented committees that garnered terrific participation from BOD and members that directly resulted in greater activities for all AAA members. We added new members to the AAA, many of which were youth members. We increased methods of promoting the Appaloosa, such as holding three trail rides, hosting an Appaloosa Horse booth a local Horse Expo, hosting an open Youth scholarship show, providing a Youth scholarship for college education, advertising the Appaloosa in local publications, charity for horses in need, holding a trail riding clinic and Endurance riding. In addition, the AAA advertised the Appaloosa Competitive All-Breed Activities Program (ACAAP) an ApHC program that rewards those who compete outside the ApHC breed ring. I re-established an Election Committee that actively seeks out nominees for our AAA BOD members. The result is that our current BOD members are engaging and spotlighting the Appaloosa horse every chance they get.
As an AAA Board of Director today, I participate in several AAA committees and manage many of our breed shows. While living in Colorado I was both President and Director for the Four Corners Appaloosa Association and participated in both New Mexico and Colorado ApHC clubs and shows. I have represented Territory II Zone B on the ApHC Non-Pro Advisory Committee for 8 years and actively compete at ApHC regional, National and World shows - having traveled to Colorado and California already this year. I understand the regional clubs dynamics and challenges, this background has taught me to not only voice new thoughts, but listen to all input and expand on ideas from the group to achieve the ultimate outcome and facilitate different points of view.
My experiences in other horse organizations have helped me grow and develop as a leader and equestrian. As Director on the Colorado Horse Council, an all-breed, non-discipline specific organization dedicated to linking the horse owners and the horse industry of the State of Colorado, I learned to put forth a voice in order to protect the common equine interest through legislation and education. COHOCO also produces the largest annual horse expo in the Western United States, in which I implemented programs that are still active today. As a 4-H Horse Project leader for 15 years and the current President of Silver Lining’s therapeutic riding program I am hands on with helping to engage and motivate kids - I understand that youth are our future and that we must nurture and encourage them. I was elected to the Red Ryder Rodeo board in Pagosa Springs, CO where I was responsible for producing an annual PRCA sanctioned Rodeo and Queen Contest.
My work experience combines both entrepreneurial and corporate backgrounds. I have owned, operated and sold two businesses. One of those being a trail riding and outfitting business as well as boarding facility. I ran the daily operations and managed over 70 head of horses. Having worked in the hospitality industry for many years, I have achieved the highest level of customer service and professionalism. By planning events in a 5-Diamond resort for groups that fall into many categories from Fortune 500 companies to non-profit organizations I have gained experience in forward thinking, integral teamwork and follow through. I currently work at the corporate level in the Sales and Marketing department for Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill where we use the most advanced technologies to promote and market this nationwide chain. I pride myself on my work ethic, integrity and multi-tasking capabilities.
I will work hard to build and retain ApHC memberships, increase registrations and continue to promote the Breed of Choice – the Appaloosa. Finding new venues in which to showcase this beautifuland versatile breed is essential to growth. I ask that you vote for me to help in the advancement of the Appaloosa horse and members who love them.
