Deans’ Meeting Agenda

March 18, 2014 - 1:00 – 2:30 pm

Deputy 301A

AGENDA ITEMS

1.  Freshmen not taking online courses Doug Olney

Hold for next meeting.

2.  Staff training / hiring process / visibility process Marybeth Christenson /

Megan Zothman

Megan will be responsible for faculty and administrator contracts. HR will be working on consistency in processes and documentation; start dates, nature of position, appointment letter template which includes links needed for MMB, insurance info, etc. Shared additional information that the deans would like included in that initial letter. Also discussed hiring letter sent to new faculty from dean; would like that included in the personnel file. Discussed process that would make sure the information that is being sent to the new faculty from HR reflects the information that has been agreed on in conversations with the dean.

3.  Online Course completion Attachment #1 Martin

Date compared early vs late registrants and regular vs conditional admits in terms of online course completion rates. Committed to having on campus courses available for freshman who register later in the summer.

4.  Faculty Loads Martin

Faculty credit teaching loads – a number of faculty teach over 24 credits per academic year. New faculty lines added for next year will help to lower these loads. This issue may affect both quality and growth. Decisions need to be made based on the Master Academic Plan.

5.  Assessment update Patrick

Reminder that departments need to do assessment findings and action plans by end of semester.

6.  Equipment RFP applications Attachment #2 Patrick

Reviewed requests vs available budget. Will need to make decision by the end of the month. Opportunities for leveraged funding? Carry over to next meeting.

7.  Calendar reminder Attachment #3 Patrick

No-class duty days worked into the calendar next year; meant to provide additional time to work on assessment.

8.  North Hennepin Community College Request for Interest Bob

Learned that their program with Moorhead in Biology is ending; may be an opportunity with their new science building. Also mentioned Human Services as an area of interest. Need to get back to NHCC shortly.

9.  Other

Bob shared updated draft of computing and printing policies.
