Signup lists in duo

How to use the signup list in duo

Introduction

This tool enables you to sign up for a tutorial group or activity such as a special revision session, demonstration, practical, etc. set by your lecturer. This guide explains the Signup List tool (the icon to the left may appear); see the Self Enrol in a Group Signup List guide if this is not the kind of list you are using.

Signing up to a list

  1. You should be informed that a Signup List has been set up by your lecturer and told where to find it within your duo course.

  2. When you go to sign up you will see the following screen (with or without the icon). There may be separate signup itemsif there are multiple events/options. Each item provides details of the event, tells you when you can start signingup and the number of places.

  3. Click the title (this is a link) to go to the signup page. Actually signing up is only possible between certain dates (and while free places remain).

 Tip:Your instructor can choose whether or not to show the names of those who have already signed up.

  1. To sign up to the list click the button marked SignUp Now.

 Tip:If you see the message ‘You will be able to use this page later to sign up for this activity/group, once the list opens’, the button will not be there because the signup period has not yet started.

 Tip:If you see the message ‘This list is now closed. This page shows the students that signed-up to this activity/group before the deadline’, the button will not be there because the signup period has expired.

  1. You should see a bar appear across the top of the screen with one of the following messages:
  2. If there was space on the list:‘Your name has been added to the member list’.
  3. If the list was full, but there were still spaces on the reserve list: ‘Your name has been added to the reserve list as the member list is full’. (See below for more details.)
  4. If both the main and reserve lists are full: ‘Sorry this list is full so you cannot sign up unless another person withdraws’.
  5. Click OK to leave the screen.

Withdrawing from a list

Sometimes you may want to remove yourself from a list. If the tutor has allowed this option:

  1. Go back to the Signup List and click the dropdown arrow beside your username.
  2. Click Withdraw if you are sure you want to remove your name from the list (your place may be instantly allocated to someone else).
  1. A confirmation window will appear.
  2. Click OK to withdraw your name.
  3. You will see a bar with the message ‘You have been removed from the list’.

 Tip: Your instructor can also withdraw you from the list, and choose whether or not you will be informed by email.

Reserve list

A lecturer can choose to include a reserve list, but this does not guarantee you a place. If a reserve list is used you will see it in the information on screen.

If someone withdraws from the main list before the deadline, then the person at the top of the reserve list will be promoted to the main list. If this happens to you, you will receive an email to let you know.

 Tip: Your instructor can also withdraw you from the reserve list, and choose whether or not you will be informed by email.
