Committee Reports
The Board of Education takes official action at its Business Meetings. Business meetings are regularly scheduled on the third Wednesday of each month, subject to changes that may occur because of holidays. Prior to the Board taking action at its business meetings, committee meetings are scheduled where in-depth discussion occurs. At each committee meeting, the Board discusses recommendations of the Superintendent of Schools and other relevant items. Committee approval authorizes resolutions to be placed on the agenda of the next appropriate business meeting and/or possible formal action.

1. Approval of Field Trip Request – Museum of Jewish Heritage – Grades 11 & 12
M The Wood-Ridge School District recognizes that field trips serve as an essential means to extending learning, improve achievements, and enhance the overall development and educational experiences of all students. Field Trips support the District’s curriculum and are aligned to the New Jersey Core Content Standards. The District has identified those field trips which are in compliance and enhance student learning.
Be it resolved that on the motion of ______, seconded by ______, upon recommendation of the Superintendent that the Board of Education approve the request from Stephanie Gaven for twenty-one (21) eleventh and twelfth grade students from Wood-Ridge High School to visit the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, New York, New York, on January 9, 2012. Departure is scheduled from Wood-Ridge High School at 8:15 AM with an approximate return time of 2:30 PM. Transportation will be provided by the District’s school bus. Wood Ridge High School students will cover the cost of lunch. This trip will meet the following core content standards: 6.2.12.D.4.i 6.2.12.A.5.d, e; 6.2.12.A.6.a, D; 3.5.12.A.2, 3.5.12.B.3, 3.5.12.C.1

2. Approval of Field Trip Request – Hackensack University Medical Center – 1st Grade
The Wood-Ridge School District recognizes that field trips serve as an essential means to extending learning, improve achievements, and enhance the overall development and educational experiences of all students. Field Trips support the District’s curriculum and are aligned to the New Jersey Core Content Standards. The District has identified those field trips which are in compliance and enhance student learning.
Be it resolved that on the motion of ______, seconded by ______, upon recommendation of the Superintendent that the Board of Education approve the request from Tracey Jupinka, Antonia Hahn, Danielle Engel and Allison Sabo, teachers, for first grade students from Catherine E. Doyle School to visit the Hackensack University Medical Center on the dates listed below in order to participate in a tour of the facility and related discussions. Departure is scheduled from Catherine E. Doyle School at 9:30 AM and returning by 12:30 PM. Transportation will be provided by the District’s school bus. This trip will meet the following core content standards - NJCCCS 6.3.4A.2 - in terms of the study of the local community and the identification of community helpers and agencies.

The Wood-Ridge School District recognizes that field trips serve as an essential means to extending learning, improve achievements, and enhance the overall development and educational experiences of all students. Field Trips support the District’s curriculum and are aligned to the New Jersey Core Content Standards. The District has identified those field trips which are in compliance and enhance student learning.
Be it resolved that on the motion of ______, seconded by ______, upon recommendation of the Superintendent that the Board of Education approve the request from Geri Berhain, teacher, for twenty-five (25) grade 6 students from Gretta Ostrovsky Middle School and four (4) parent chaperones to travel to a New York City theatre – date and theatre to be determined by availability of tickets. Departure is scheduled from Gretta Ostrovsky Middle School at 8:30 AM and returning by 5:30 PM. Cost of trip is anticipated to be approximately $100.00 per student with costs paid by parents. Transportation will be provided by the District’s school bus. This trip will meet the following core content standards: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4.

Employees are required to take continuing education courses to improve their professional knowledge, maintain professional credentials and to operate most effectively and efficiently in the delivery of services to the children of the district.
Be it resolved that on the motion of ______, seconded by ______, upon recommendation of the Superintendent that the Board of Education approve Arlene DePalma, teacher, to attend the “Building a First Class Kindergarten” at Kean University, on Monday, January 9, 2012 at a cost not to exceed $163.40 (registration = $149.00/ mileage/tolls = $14.40).
