1. / INTRODUCTION
1.1 / Post Title: /

ICT TECHNICIAN

1.2 / Post Purpose: / To check, develop and maintain the school’s ICT resource for safe, effective use by pupils and staff.
To provide basic technical support and implement procedures in line with the school’s ICT support service definition.
To support and advise pupils and staff in the appropriate use of ICT.
To manage appropriate records of expenditure of hardware and software and of support requests and actions taken.
To work with the IT Manager to implement school improvement targets for ICT.

2. / MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Desktop and Application Support:
2.1 / Connect, set up and check PCs and peripherals for normal operation.
2.2 / Perform routine maintenance tasks, including installing basic software packages and setting common options.
2.3 / Perform basic to advanced PC hardware repairs and upgrades.
2.4 / Maintain common hardware found in school; install applications and troubleshoot basic to advanced problems.
2.5 / Maintain, upgrade and repair a wide range of PCs and peripherals and install complete applications and operating systems.
2.6 / Detect, diagnose and resolve PC, peripheral and application errors.
2.7 / Perform advanced diagnosis procedures on PCs, peripherals and applications.
2.8 / Advise on compatibility of hardware, applications and operating systems, according to user requirements.
Server and Network Support:
2.9 / Set up hardware and perform basic checking of networked PCs.
2.10 / Perform routine maintenance tasks for user accounts; run basic network monitoring reports and utilities and use active directory for network tasks.
2.11 / Perform routine tasks to maintain user accounts and permissions, including implementing disk space and printer quota policies.
2.12 / Install software and CDs on the file server; maintain hardware and software of the server; set disk space and printer quotas; create network shares and manage access rights; monitor system logs.
Multimedia Support:
2.13 / Set up AV equipment with good working knowledge of its function and usage.
2.14 / Install and configure relevant software with a view to facilitating video/image/sound editing.
2.15 / Maintain, repair and upgrade multimedia and AV provision in the school.
2.16 / Work with various media formats.
2.17 / Fault find and maintenance on multimedia equipment.
2.18 / Develop/work with video/audio/graphic production and skills of production of the school.
2.19 / Support Performing Arts with the production of curriculum related materials as required by the exam board.
2.20 / Support out of hours activities in school, such as the School Productions, Showcases and Parent Information Evenings.
Health and Safety:
2.21 / Ensure basic safety checks are carried out, including portable equipment testing.
Configuration and Installation:
2.22 / Follow acceptance test procedures for new ICT equipment.
2.23 / Update records of installed hardware and software; maintain a software library and store original copies of installed applications.
2.24 / Plan, record and implement changes to hardware and applications; collate and interpret results of testing and advise if goods are fit for use.
Web Support:
2.25 / Support with web systems the school has in place and assist with website maintenance.
2.26 / To seek, implement modification and improvement where required.
Continuity, Maintenance and Security:
2.27 / Follow routine maintenance procedures.
2.28 / Follow school back up, virus protection and security procedures.
2.29 / Note risks to ICT systems and suggest precautions, follow extended maintenance procedures.
2.30 / Implement and suggest improvements to school back up, virus protection and security procedures.
Support Request Management:
2.31 / Accurately record support requests, outcomes and time taken in the support log.
2.32 / Investigate requests for support; record diagnostic information; retrieve details of similar requests and either resolve or escalate to the appropriate level.
2.33 / Respond to support requests according to school procedures, recording detailed diagnostic information and using appropriate knowledge bases/logs to inform diagnosis and resolution.
2.34 / Determine whether an immediate solution is both required and possible; ensure steps are taken to find a permanent solution if not immediately possible.
2.35 / Provide second level of in-school support for more complex requests.
Internal Support Arrangements and External Contracts:
2.36 / Work to the school’s support service definition and note problems in maintaining service levels; track external support calls and report performance of external contracts.
2.37 / To liaise with external agencies, contractors, suppliers and technical support providers as required.
Strategy and Planning:
2.38 / Identify possible ICT requirements and develop outline specifications for solutions.
2.39 / Identify software, hardware and working practices required to fulfil functional specifications as
defined by school staff.
Budget and Team Responsibilities:
2.40 / Purchase consumables and maintain stocks following school procedures.
2.41 / Work as part of a team and adopt flexible working practices.
General:
2.42 / To support staff and pupils in the use of ICT resources through direct interaction and by producing simple help sheets.
