COURSE DESCRIPTION

Sports and Entertainment Marketing is a unique and innovative course designed for students with an interest in the sports and entertainment industry. This course stresses the utilization of fundamental marketing concepts and will include an orientation to the sports and entertainment industry. Marketing strategies along with topics in sponsorship, pricing, marketing research, endorsements, and promotions will be part of this course. The course will develop critical thinking, decision making and communication skills through real world applications. Students will be prepared to handle specific tasks associated with either industry. This course offers students and edge if pursuing marketing or sports management degrees on the collegiate level.

Guest speakers, case studies, field trips, videos and computer integrated activities will be incorporated into the class.

Required Materials ( if the students do not have supplies, points will be deducted from their lab activities.)

Grading

Grading for the 9 weeks will consist of a combination of Quizzes, Classroom Participation and Homework Assignments, Individual/Group Projects, and Common Assessments. Breakdown of the percentages are as follows:

Daily Class Assignments, Quizzes, Classroom 40%

Participation, Individual/Group Projects, and all other

course related material.

Common Assessments 60%

Common Assessments are project-based activities that will assess a student’s proficiency against Content and Performance Standards. Students will be graded on each common assessment using a standards-based rubric and/or check list.

(Extra Credit can be earned throughout the year)

Classroom Procedures

  • Tardies: If student is tardy; he/she must have a pass from the front office, attendance office, or administrator to enter class. A student is tardy if he or she is not seated and working on the daily warm-up when the bell rings
  • Absences:Excuse for the absence forms are to be submitted to the Attendance Office , not the teacher
  • Make-up Work: Students are responsible for requesting make up work. Students will have three(3) calendar days from the day make up work is assigned to turn in make up work
  • Restrooms: Students will not be allowed to go to the restroom during class unless it is a real emergency. However, the 15/15 Rule will be adhered to. (No break 15 min at beginning and at end of class)
  • Tutorials: Tuesdays 3:00pm-4:10pm
  • Student Notebook and Materials: Each student is required to have a notebook and to bring it to class every day along with the necessary materials. Each page of the notebook must have a heading and must have all work to receive credit. Notebooks must be neat and in order at all times. All work must be in proper dividers. Notebooks are subject to grading at any time and will be graded based on neatness, order, and content. The notebook will be divided and labeled as follows: 1) Warm ups 2) Notes 3) Vocabulary Words 4) Chapter Review 5) Homework 6) Portfolio Information 7) Journal
  • Homework: All homework is due at the beginning of the next class period. If student is absent, refer to make up procedures (see above)

Classroom Rules

  • Students must follow the Dress Code Policy of King High School and SISD
  • Show complete respect to the instructors and others
  • No chewing gum, food or beverages are allowed in the classroom
  • No vandalism of equipment nor use without the directives of the teacher
  • Be on time
  • No cheating on assignments or tests
  • Penalties will be enforced for all late work
  • Electronic devices such as CD’s, MP3’s, Ipods, radios, cell phones, etc, or allowed. If these items are seen or used, they will be immediately taken up and turned in to the appropriate administrators
  • While using computers, do not download material, bring games from home to play any computer game.
  • Internet Usage is for class related assignments only. This means NO FACE BOOK, GAMES, CRAIGS LIST, OR ANY OTHER UNAUTHORIZED WEBSITES BY HISD
  • PARTICIPATE ACTIVELY EVERY DAY AND AT ALL TIMES !!!!!!
  • Students will follow the classroom rules as it is established to develop responsibility and accountability for each student
