The Adelaide White Ribbon Breakfast Committee (AWRBC) was established in 2008 with the aim of raising awareness about the White Ribbon – the campaign to eliminate violence against women.

The Adelaide White Ribbon Breakfast is held on, or close to November 25th each year.

It is one of Australia’s premier White Ribbon events. In 2016 over 1200 people attended, including VIPs, MPs, business and community leaders and members of the public.

Violence Against Women

In the words of Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary General, ― “Violence against women is perhaps the most shameful human rights violation. It knows no boundaries of geography, culture or wealth. As long as it continues, we cannot claim to be making real progress towards equality, development, and peace."

  • 40% Australian women over the age of 15 will experience some form violence during their lifetimes (ABS 2006).
  • In Australia, at least one woman is killed every week by a current or former partner (WRF 2012).
  • Domestic and Family Violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women and children.
  • Men are responsible for the vast majority of violence against women.
