ELA is a class that is geared for reading and writing instruction. Students will receive grades through class assignments and various station work that they will be completed in a notebook or journal. Periodically, students will have to do homework to prepare for station assignments that they will be informed of in class. Please have students read daily for at LEAST 30 minutes. Reading something they enjoy is usually good for this daily reading. We want to help them grow to love reading!

Classwork

Classwork grades are determined by activities completed within the classroom. This includes, but is not limited to, notes, vocabulary, daily warm-ups(Do Now’s), station work, and exit tickets. Part of being an active participant in the classroom is taking accurate notes, keeping materials organized, and using class time wisely. Therefore, incorporated in this grade are binder and interactive notebook checks. The interactive notebooks or journals are the heart and soul of my class. They MUST have it and complete all assignments in it in order to pass.

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be given out at the midway point of the nine weeks. Please refer to the school calendar for dates and procedures.

Report cards

Report cards will be given at the end of each nine weeks. Please refer to the school calendar for dates, times, and procedures.

Late Work

Students are responsible for visiting the “While you were out” bin to retrieve work they missed. Below are the guidelines for turning in late assignments:

Step One: If student is absent he/she has one (1) day for each day of absence to turn in the work for full credit.

Step Two: If the student fails to turn in work in the designated amount of time 5 points will be deducted for every day the assignment is notturned in.

Step Three: Once step two has been reached and the student fails to turn in missing assignments after3days, all opportunities are exhausted and the student receives azero.
