Start Date:

Contract End Date:

Directions:This document will guide you through your first twelve weeks of being a Regional Director. Follow the weekly instructions and mark each task as you complete it. This document is due every Friday at 11PM PST.

  • The weekly instructions below are “must-do’s” for each week. Most weeks, these will take up very little of your four hours per week and the remaining time is yours to pursue initiatives that further the cause (mobilizing people, hosting a fundraiser, etc.).
  • If you’re feeling ambitious, you are welcome to jump ahead in assignments after you complete the current week.
  • Note the last page where you’ll list your ten and networking events.
  • Cross out in red each assignment as you complete it.

Notes:

Did you know? Leaders are only responsive when people who live in their district contact them. For example, if you live in Montana and call the two senators representing the state, the staffers answering will put your view in the Senators call log. However, if you called Senators representing any other state, their staffers wouldn’t include your information because you don’t live in their district. All politics is local! And your job is to make sure the leaders representing you are getting lot of weekly calls from people who are about global poverty.

* These are the ten people you want to engage in the cause. They can be friends, family, co-workers or anyone you think would be a good ally.Right now these people are probably unfamiliar with The Borgen Project, but your goal is to transition them into becoming very engaged and knowledgeable.

Tips for Engaging your Ten

  • Mention the cause and issues frequently.
  • Ask them for advice related to your Borgen Project work (ie. “Do you have any fundraising ideas?”, or, “How would you get seven people a week to call Sen. Jones?”, etc.).
  • Share information about the issues in a way that relates to their areas of interest. For example, with a nurse you might discuss/share links to information about Plumpy’nut and other global health innovations. While those with business backgrounds might be interested in hearing that CEO’s and the Chamber of Commerce are encouraging Congress to reduce global poverty in order to spur economic growth in the U.S.
