ELDERLY - Students are in a unique position to be of service to the elderly in nursing homes and day care centers. The presence of young people tends to brighten the day of the residents who often receive few visitors. Students at these agencies are involved in friendly visiting, helping conduct activities, reading letters to the residents, and generally taking an interest in their lives. Students learn a great deal from older people and they gain an appreciation for the contributions they have made. (Most of these agencies will require a TB test prior to being able to begin work. Please check out their requirements when seeking information about service opportunities. Most of these agencies require a police background check.)
