Desktop DJ – getting started

Step 1 - Register

Register with Desktop DJ, you will then be sent an email with your username and password.

Step 2 - Sign in

Access the system at desktopdj.ilikemusic.comSign in when prompted, on some networks this step is automatic after the first log-in.

If you have requested IP Address linked access, any computer on your network will have access to Desktop DJ without the need for usernames or passwords. To request IP Address access, please contact us.

Step 3- Search for music

Enter search criteria in at least one of the search fields – Title,Artist, Album, Genre or Release Year.

If searching for The Beatles, it is necessary to enter the full name, including 'The' or you can enter 'Beatles' and then select 'Contains' in the adjacent right hand field.

Step 4 - View your results

Titleprovides access to all tracks with that title, irrespective of artist.

Artist provides access to all tracks on Desktop DJ by that particular Artist.

Album/Single/EP links to all tracks on that particular album/single or EP.

Add to Cartselects and entersthe track into thecart.

Detailsprovides further information about the track (artist, album, album artwork, track number, song, genre, yearof release, our track ID number and duration).

Click on the Track, Artist or Album headers to sort by that field (A-Z), click again if you wish to reverse the order (Z-A).

Step 5 - Listen to music

Click the play arrow under the ‘Listen’tab, this will open the music player in a separate window. You can adjust the volume, stop, pause, fast forward and rewind.

Sign out will end your session, be sure to save your playlist before selecting this option.

Home returns to main Desktop DJ

page, be sure to save your playlist before selecting this option.

Searchtakes you back to the search page. Your playlist will remain unchanged.

Cartallows you to view and edit your playlist, the number of items in playlist is always displayed in the top left corner.

Duplicates provides a list of allduplicate tracks on the system toenable selection of the preferredrecording.

Add all adds all tracks (on all pages) from that search into your playlist.

Other actions

To saveyour cart:

  • Click on ‘Save’
  • When asked if you want to open or save file, select ‘Save’
  • Save the play-list within Excel or your other preferred software. Select an appropriate name for your play-list and save in your chosen directory.

All playlists are automatically saved as a Microsoft Office Excel Comma Separated Values (CSV) File. Although there is an option to open via other applications, it is advisable to use Microsoft Excel. Please refer to your ITdepartment if you do not have access to Excel.

Remove item from cartby clicking on the cross under the ‘Remove’ column.

Change the position of a track in the cart by clicking on the up or down arrow accordingly. Items can also be sorted in the Excel spreadsheet.

Listen to all tracks in your cart by selecting ‘Listen to All’ and the tracks will play in order.

Create a new playlist by selecting ‘Remove All’ and then add new tracks using the ‘Search’ facility.

To open a saved Cart

  • Select 'Open'
  • Browseand select the play-list you wish to open
  • Select 'Open' once play-list appears in window

TIP: If the play-list doesn’t appear, select ‘Remove all’ and do steps 1–3 again

To email, save or insert alink to playlist (as an m3u file)

  • Click on ‘Download all’
  • When asked if you want to open or save file, select ‘Save’
  • Select an appropriate name for your play-list and save in your chosen directory.

You can then paste this file into any document, presentation or email. When the file is opened, you will need to enter your user name and password to play the tracks (unless your computer has IP Address access).

Listen to the playlist while doing other tasks on your computer by minimising the screen.
