Facts about his life
p Birthday: 18. July 1918 in Qunu, Transkei (Photos)
p After the death of his father he becomes a leader of election district
p After his school qualifications he goes to university of Fort Hare to become lawyer
p In 1940 he take part in a protest campaign and as consequence he is banished from the university
p Since 1942 he has been an active member of the ANC and the ANCYL (he helps to found the ANCYL)
à In 1950 Nelson becomes ANCYL President
à In 1952 he becomes ANC Transvaal President and National Vice-president
p 1952 he founds the first black lawyer’s office with his partner Oliver Tambo
p Nelson Mandela realizes that the way of the Apartheid regime isn’t a way of law and fairness, thus he becomes an enemy of the regime
p He is accused in the famous trial of the south African government against the ANC
p After the Sharpville Massacre in 1960 the government ban the ANC
p Nelson Mandela is in prison until 1961
p After his release from prison he is committed to the Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK, the military branch of the ANC)
p After 1962 he has to stay 5 five years in prison, but in the Rivonia trial he gets life imprisonment (Nelson Mandela's statement)
p In 1964 nearly the whole leading figures of the ANC are condemn to life imprisonment
p Frederik de Klerk becomes the first chairman of the national party and president at the 20.9.1989: He prompts that Nelson Mandela and all the other ANC members are released from prison and the banishment from the ANC is abolished
p In 1991 he becomes ANC President
p In 1993 Nelson Mandela and Frederik de Klerk get the Peace Nobel Price (Picture on the right side)
p In 1994 the first democratically elections take place, where all south Africans can take part
p In 1994 Nelson Mandela becomes president of the Republic of south Africa
p Mandela leads the reorganization of the state and the society away from Apartheid und the minority government and fights for the national and international reconciliation:

o After his resign he works as lawyer for several humane rights organisations
