JOB TITLE:Engagement Support

GRADE:Future Schools Trust Scheme 8

RESPONSIBLE TO:Assistant Head Teacher

  1. Main purpose of the role
  • To patrol the school. This involves ensuring that students are prompt to lesson and supporting staff when they call for assistance.
  • To support staff by deescalating a situation and seeking to find the most productive outcome.
  • To support students in developing self-management strategies
  • To supervise and work with pupils in the Reflection Room on a lesson by lesson basis. These pupils are placed in the Reflection Room by Senior Leaders, Wellbeing Directors, Heads of Year, SSM or by Patrol staff. The pupils will have presented challenging behaviour or will have had difficulty in meeting normal classroom expectations.
  • Support pupils in the Reflection Room to complete the work brought with them and help the pupils focus in a structured, calm and simple environment to facilitate a successful return to normal lessons.
  • When not supervising, assist by supporting individual pupils or small groups as required, offering mentoring to identified students.
  1. Accountability and Tasks

Accountability:

  • Supervision and support for pupils in the Reflection room
  • Patrol of the school site.

Tasks:

  • Receive and settle pupils referred to the room.
  • Patrol the school building
  • Address truancy and punctuality to lesson
  • Support students and staff through deescalating and developing self- regulation
  • Supervise pupils working in the room ensuring a calm working environment.
  • Return work to relevant staff
  • To challenge and motivate pupils. Promoting and developing their self-esteem.
  • Liaise with other, relevant staff to gather information about pupils and to give updates on pupils.
  • Work with pupils to identify barriers to learning and develop appropriate strategies to overcome these.
  • Assist in the delivery of high standards of learning in the Reflection Room.
  • Be aware of, and apply, school procedures and policies.
  • Ensure the room is tidy and well maintained.
  • Liaise and consult with members of the Senior Leadership Team, Pastoral Team and teaching staff
  • To maintain accurate records of pupils attending the Reflection Room.
  • To monitor data on behaviour and report to line manager.

Other duties:

  • When not supervising, be on call to behaviour incidents, interview pupils and take statements.
  • To follow Child Protection Policy and procedures.
  • Promote consistency of behaviour management across the Academy.
  • To support pupils to commit to the Academy’s behaviour and attendance policies by working with individuals or small groups.
  • Administrative tasks as directed by the line manager.
  • Attend relevant training.
  • Engage with the Academy’s system of performance review.

This role specification contains an outline of the jobholder’s principal accountabilities and is not intended to be exhaustive. It will be reviewed with the jobholder annually in performance review as necessary.

Person Specification:

  • Successful recent experience of working with students of relevant age.
  • Good standard of Education (5 A*- C GCSE certificates or equivalent).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Previous experience of working within a supported learning environment.
  • Previous experience of working within a school would be advantageous.
  • Must be able to use own initiative, work independently in an orderly manner, motivate and inspire others with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Understanding of relevant policies, codes of practice, legislation.
  • Ability to apply behaviour management policies and strategies which contribute to a purposeful learning environment.
