Safety Meeting

April 1, 2010

Present: A. Hatfield, L. Murphy, K. Neville, J. Hale, M. Munson, W. McNamara; M. Brackin; D. Davis, L. Lake, C. Lathrop, D. Latimer

1.  Update Maines Carts – all of the carts have been label to assist with tracking those that need preventative or actual maintenance. Linda Murphy explained that no one should fold the old Maines Carts as they can tip over and the shelf should not be lifted and latched as it can fall. Maines will be giving the carts the proper maintenance attention. Dan will get a cart for the tent and return the Maines cart to the Commissary.

2.  Accident reports timely to HR to insure the proper follow up with the employee, doctor and WC insurance company investigator.

3.  Update in internal inspections – Kelly Neville completed self inspections of safety and sanitation issues in all dining locations for the Fall and Spring Semester. Knife rack missing was a common issue and all the units are obtaining one currently. Things did improve from Fall to Spring.

4.  Air gap update – Dan and Bill will report at the next meeting.

5.  Michelle reviewed the updated Chemical Safety Policy and Personal Protective Equipment Policy.

6.  There was a discussion about employees working in high temp areas especially with the summer months coming on. Some modifications are:

  1. Bar mops soaked in ice water to put around their necks
  2. Frequent breaks to cooler locations
  3. Carpis or long shorts over the knee
  4. Replace hats with hair nets
  5. Encourage them to drink water or non-caffeinated beverages
  6. Prop Doors ( campus may have issue with fire doors)
  7. Portable fans but beware they can reduce the efficiency of coolers and cold wells

Outstanding Items

1.  11/19/2009 Bakery and Raquette Pizza Floor – Update both are on schedule for summer

2.  11/19/2009 Possible to replace Corey exhaust hood filters with aluminum ones – Dan Davis to research some for RP. The Court filters had a collar put in place and a purchased a special tool to retrieve and seems to eliminate the poor ergonomics of cleaning and replacing.

3.  9/1/2009 Wheels on transfer carts changed by 5/31/2010 – Update appears to be on schedule

4.  New: Women’s bathroom across from Den water at sink still not consistently working Dan Davis to put in a work order
