November‘13Technique Class

1. Faux Patina card

  1. Open your embossing folder and add Crumb Cake ink to the label side with your brayer. Place the Vanilla card stock on the opposite side of the folder and close it. Run it thru the Big Shot to emboss. Remove it for the next steps.
  2. For the main card you’ll sponge these colors all over the textured piece in this order – Pear Pizzazz, Bermuda Bay and lastly Chocolate Chip.
  3. For the small technique card piece use these colors – Calypso Coral, Cajun Craze and Chocolate Chip.
  4. Next you’ll heat set the ink on the textured piece with a heat gun. Then for the main card tap the Versamark ink pad over the sponged piece lightly. Do not cover the entire piece!
  5. Sprinkle Gold embossing powder over it all and tap off the excess. If you have too much coverage tap or swipe off some of the powder. Heat emboss.
  6. For the small technique piece I stamped onto the sponged piece with Versamark ink with the lines image in the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set. Emboss with gold ep.
  7. Finish the card as shown, punching the Chocolate pieces from the large Chocolate Chip layer behind the Patina piece.

2. Snowscape Card

  1. Use long post-it notes (or double up square ones to fit across your card stock) and cut smooth curves in the sticky edge to resemble hills. You can cut two or three or flip one over to get a different curve.
  2. Place the first one on the bottom where I have the softest curve. Ink the sponge very lightly in Island Indigo ink. You’ll be adding ink above the note; not below. Dab or rub some off so it’s not too strong and pinch it together so it’s not too wide before rubbing in small circles half off and half on the sticky note and card stock. It’s so much better to have less ink here than too much as you can always add more but not take any away. Do this in just a few areas along the post-it note.
  3. I did the same think with Perfect Plum ink in areas still white.
  4. Do this same think with the second hill in the middle. Then remove all of the post-its to add a little to the very bottom left.
  5. Now add your top curve where it meets the colored sky. Press this down well so it sticks. Ink the sponge again in Perfect Plum and rub the color in thick stripes from the post-it to the top of the card stock, keeping the darker hue near the snow. You do not need to achieve the depth of color I do on this step. I might recommend one less stripe than I have.
  6. Do the same with the Island Indigo keeping the darkest area at the base.
  7. Now add a bit of Rich Razzleberry at the base near the snow on top of the Plum.
  8. Finally rub the Indigo ink all over the base across and above the snow blending both colors somewhat.
  9. Remove the post-it. Add the middle post-it back onto the snowy hill. Ink your botanical image in Black ink and stamp so the base is partially on the post-it. Remove the post it.
  10. Ink the greeting in Black ink and stamp on the bottom right. Let dry or heat set. Adhere all layers as shown.
  11. Add 2-way glue & Dazzling Diamonds to the snow tops and valleys.

Technique Card:

  1. Do the same thing with post-it notes but instead of soft circles use Indigo ink and a back and forth motion with your sponged pinched tight on the edge of the post-it’s.
  2. Sponge from the bottom left hill – Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, Rose Red, Cherry Cobbler.
  3. Ink the birds stamp in Black Stazon ink and stamp while the post it is in place on the hill.

3.Foil Debossing Technique

  1. Tap the Black Stazon ink pad onto the raised side of the Fancy Fan embossing folder, inking it just large enough to cover the size of your card stock. Place the foil paper on the opposite or clean side with the shiny side facing the inked folder. Close the folder and run it through the Big Shot.
  2. Remove and set aside to dry. Clean your folder with Stazon cleaner.
  3. Ink your main image in Black Stazon ink and stamp onto the White card stock. Punch out with the 2 ½” circle punch. Punch out a part of a second 2 ½” circle punch from the Raspberry Ripple piece, making sure you leave ½” or more on all sides so you can still use this piece for the main card. Layer these pieces together so the Raspberry circle layers the white circle on one side. Adhere together.
  4. Color in the main image with a Smoky Slate marker.
  5. Adhere the Raspberry Ripple piece to the folded Smoky Slate main card.
  6. Attach the foil textured piece to the Black layer. Add the Black strip, cutting a notch in one end. Adhere and add the ribbon too. Adhere to the main card.
  7. Add the remaining pieces with dimensionals if desired.
