TRAINING SCHEDULE: The NEW Reading Plus

INITIAL ADMINISTRATOR TRAINING

Administrator training is for Grades 4-12 Administrators who will useReading Plus at their school.

ADMINISTRATOR ACTION ITEMS
  • Identify Grades 4-12 teachers and/or administrators who will use Reading Plus.
  • Select a Reading Plus contact at your school. This individual will be responsible for communicating with district staff members and Reading Plus on the school’s behalf.
  • Register for upcoming Administrator Training using My Learning Plan. This will ensure documentation of your faculty’s training.
  • Administrators will facilitate to make sure all teachers view pre-recorded Initial Teacher Training video followed by one additional follow-up option.

Pre-Recorded Video: The NEW Reading Plus
**Available for viewing starting August 19**An email link will be shared or made available on the SCS website from the Curriculum and Instruction Department. During the 40-minute pre-recorded video, administrators will learn about:
  • Why the NewReading Plus is an Effective Intervention for Many Struggling Readers
  • All new Reading PlusAssessment and Programs
  • Effective Implementation Planning
  • How to Set Up Your New Reading Plus Site
  • How to Track School Progress

INITIAL TEACHER TRAINING

Teacher Training is for all Grades 4-12 TEACHERS who will useReading Plus at their school.

1. ALL teachers should viewPre-Recorded Video: Teacher Training in the NEW Reading Plus
**Available for viewing starting August 19** This session is listed in My Learning Plan for teachers to register and confirm teacher viewing of the video. During Initial Teacher Training video, teachers will learn about:
  • Why the NewReading Plus is an Effective Intervention for Many Struggling Readers
  • All newReading Plus Assessment and Programs
  • Enrolling Students and Setting Assignment Schedules
  • How to Monitor Data Weekly
  • How to Foster Student Success
2. There are three different follow-up options for Teacher Training. ALL teachers should sign up in My Learning Plan for Options 1 or 3. Teachers must take advantage of ONE of the three options, even if they have used Reading Plus in the past.
OPTION #1: Large-Group Face-to-Face 2 hours; Live in-person training) (August 27, 28 or 29).
Teachers interested in face-to-face large-group training are invited to attend ONE of the in-person training sessions on August 27th, 28th, or 29th:
  • August 27, 2013: American Way Middle, 3805 American Way, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
  • August 28, 2013: Southwind High, 7900 East Shelby Drive, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
  • August 29, 2013: Central High, 306 S. Bellevue, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

OPTION #2: Live Webinar (1 hour) (September 3rd, 4th, or 5th)
Teachers interested in training via a live webinar can register for a live webinar on September 3rd, 4th, or 5th. An email link with invited times will be sent out to teachers or through the Monday Memo. *This session is not listed in My Learning Plan.

OPTION #3: OPTIONAL WORKSHOP OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHERS: Teachers who have received Initial Teacher Training have the opportunity to get hands-on support with what they learned about during Initial Teacher Training. Hands-On Workshops are not mandatory. Each workshop provides a focused opportunity for teachers to get hands-on experience in one of three topics areas:
  • Workshop One: Crafting an Effective Classroom Implementation Plan: Learn how to target the number of students you can effectively serve based on computer resources, how to ensure that you are using Reading Plus with the right students, and how to craft a motivation plan that supports student success.
  • Workshop Two: Enrolling Students: Gets hands-on assistance with enrolling your students into your Reading Plus class.
FINAL OPPORTUNITY: Initial Teacher Training in Reading Plus. Teachers will learn everything they need to know to get started using Reading Plus effectively. See below for available times and locations on September 10, 11, or 12.
