ebSOA Minutes June 6, 2006

Attendees

George Brown

Sally St Amand

David Webber

Kathryn Breininger

Regrets: Goran Zugic

George provided an update on the symposium in SF. Goran’s presentation was well received. Several members of other TCs expressed interest in the work of the ebSOA TC. In his presentation Goran emphasized semantic integration. David stated that BCM provides a top level vision.

Joe Chiusano in an email sent to the SOA-RM TC said he was participating in an informal group of standard’s organizations to define SOA. He was representing OASIS in this discussion. The grouped discussed the representation of ebSOA especially as there is a different perspective among the different OASIS SOA TCs. The Chiusano email will be forwarded to those on the call who were not aware of it. David felt BCM should also be represented.

A discussion of the Vision Statement was held. David had said he would provide wording changes he would like considered in the vision statement at the last conference call; he will send out those changes to the list. Once the TC comes up with a draft they feel represents the message to be communicated the plan is to forward it to Carol Geyer, Mary McRae & Jamie Clark for their input on content and methods for distributing it.

Sally St Amand will start a FAQ; it will be circulated to TC. We should consider its wider use to reflect the contribution of other standards.

With respect to the FWSI call, George and Ram were the only ones on the call. George will look for the notes he made re the call. The ebSOA needs to identify aspects that would be influenced by FWSI. They are more technical than business semantics.

Sally and Goran had an audio interview with Sacha Schlegel for his project to explain ebXML specs. The audio needs to be edited. Need to get in touch with Sacha re finishing and posting of audio.

We agreed to cancel the July 4, 2006 call. We will schedule a call that week if needed to address specific issues.

Jamie Clark sent George & Sally an email re the IPR policy that the ebSOA TC is operating under. The email appeared to be missing links; Sally sent a request to Jamie regarding this. Jamie has not responded. Kathryn said that the email was referencing the need to plan for the new IP policy. The ebSOA TC falls under the legacy policy which means that the TC has to complete all of its work by April 2007 at which time it will be dissolved. If additional time is needed to complete the work of the TC or the work continues to evolve and it seems likely the TC will nee to be functioning past 4/07 then the TC needs to decide which IP policy is most appropriate. The TC will need to vote on the IP policy. After some discussion it was felt that we should work to finish the current scope this year, and if it seemed likely that the TC should continue functioning that we address the issue and develop a plan prior to year end.

Kathryn has provided a link to the OASIS website with the IP modes.

George advised us that Intel was interested in the work of the TC that it meshed with research they are doing; he was providing a description of the research when the call ended. He stressed the need to focus and address the issues we have defined,
