Creating a Transform FILE (.mst)
This step is required for:
- Installation via Group Policy on Windows Server 2000 and 2003 networks
- Installation on an RM Community Connect 3 network
A transform (.mst) file is used at install time to customise the installation. In the case of Autograph this allows the User Name, School and Serial Number to be automatically registered on each client machine during the installation process. If this is not carried out the software will appear to the user to be unlicensed.
A transform file must be created before Autograph is installed. It can be generated by the Autograph Installer Customiser.exe program that can be found in the “Installation” folder on the CD. On executing the program the user is presented with the following screen:
MSI Location:
This specifies the location of the Autograph MSI file. Use the Browse button to locate it (usually on the CD).
Name, Institution and Serial Number:
These specify your registration details.
Create RM Community Connect 3 INI File:
If this box is checked an INI file required for installation on an RM Community Connect 3 network will be generated in the same folder as the transform file. The INI file is named Autograph 3.ini.
Generate Transform File:
Click this button to actually generate the transform file. A dialog box will be displayed to allow the user to change the location and filename of the transform.
It often takes a minute or two to generate the transform file so please be patient. A message box will appear when the process has completed.
Advanced Options:
Install Autograph Resources:
If this box is checked both the Autograph program and the accompanying resources will be installed. If the box is unchecked just the Autograph program will be installed.
Install Microsoft DirectX:
Direct X 9 or greater is required for the 3D pages of Autograph. If this box is checked then DirectX 9b will be installed. If the box is unchecked then DirectX will not be installed.
Install Shockwave and Flash:
Autograph requires at least Flash 7 and Shockwave 8.5 be installed on target workstations, for online help and Extras Pages. If this box is checked then Flash 7 and Shockwave 10 will be installed. If it is unchecked then they are not. The Macromedia supplied installer for these has been known to downgrade versions on some systems.
Add Autograph Shortcut to Desktop:
If this box is checked then a shortcut to Autograph 3 will be created on the workstation desktop. If unchecked then it will not be created
Add Autograph Resources Shortcut to Desktop:
This option is only available if Install Autograph Resources is checked. If this is checked then a shortcut to Autograph Resources will be created on the workstation desktop. If unchecked then it will not be created

INSTALLATION
There are 2 methods for installing Autograph on your CC3 Network depending on the version of the Application Wizard on your system. For those that have version 2, much of the process is automated, whilst for version 1 a little more setup is required
Autograph comes with an MSI file which can be used for the installation process and is a 32 bit application.
It is necessary that Autograph runs in high colour (16 bit) or true colour (32 bit) for the 3D graph pages.
Preparing your system for installation
RM recommend that you:
1)Have 2 clean workstations available for this process
2)Reset the profile of thesystem administrator account you choose to use for the installation
Installing the Autograph Package using Application Wizard version 2
- Log into 1 of the workstations as a system administrator
- Open up the application Wizard and select the ‘Manage a Windows Installer Package‘ and click ‘Next’. This dialog is shown in Figure 1

- On the next dialog (shown in Figure 2), select ‘Add an existing Windows Installer Package’ and click ‘Next’.

- You will now be prompted to install Autograph and test that it works on the work station. This can be done either by running setup.exe or by double clicking on Autograph 3.04.msi. Both of which are located in the root folder of the installation CD. Once you have completed the local installation and successfully run the program click ‘Next’. This is shown in Figure 3

- You will now be prompted to fill in the details for the package. Fill these in as shown in Figure 4 and click ‘Next’

The contents of the installation CD will now be automatically copied into the server’s packages folder
- The dialog shown in Figure 5 should appear when the installation is complete. Click Finish to complete the first part of the process

Create your transform file as described in ‘Creating a Transform File (.mst)’. The MSI file can be found at Q:\Applications\Autograph 3.Failure to perform this step will result in your autograph installation reporting it is unlicensed when run on the workstations. When creating the MST file, you should ensure that the RM CC3 ini file is created (check box at the bottom of the window) and that the MST and ini file are saved into the location stated above. This will replace the default RM ini file and allow your installation to pick up the transform file.
Allocating the Package to Workstations
- Log into the server asa system administrator
- Open up the RM Management Console and locate the second clean workstation This is shown in Figure 6

- Select and right click on the selected workstation and select properties as shown in Figure 7

- Open the packages tab in the resulting dialog box (shown in Figure 8)

- Now select Available Packages from the drop down menu. This is shown in Figure 9

- Now select Autograph 3 from the list as shown in Figure 10

- Now click Allocate to send it to the work station
- Restart the clean work station and log in as an administrator
- See if Autograph has successfully installed, it will be located in
Start/All Programs/Autograph 3
Setting up the Shortcuts for Normal Users
1)Open up the RM Management console and select Program sets from the Resources section as shown in Figure 11
2) Create a new Program Set using the option on the right hand mouse menu (shown in Figure 12)

5)Now select all 3 shortcuts and click the ‘>’ button to select them into the program set (shown in Figure 15)
6)On the groups tab select the user groups you wish to have access to this shortcut and use the ‘>’ button to add them. Shown in Figure 16

8) Finally log out of the 2nd workstation and then log in as a member of the selected groups. See if Autograph is present.
The Installation can now be tested according to the procedures recommended by RM. In addition to which there is a simple check which should be performed:
Log in as a user and attempt to run Autograph. On the Splash Screen that is displayed check that your license information is present. If it says unlicensed then it is likely that the ini file or transform (MST) file has not been created correctly or are present in the wrong location. The easiest way to do this is to run the Installer Customiser again, ensuring that the MSI file selected is the one present in your package folder. This should solve the problem.
Installing the Autograph Package on earlier Systems
It is necessary to manually setup the folder structure for the autograph package. This is done as follows
1. At the workstation, log on as a system administrator
2. Browse to Q:\Applications. In the Applications folder, create a new folder with the name Autograph 3. This name will be displayed as the package name in the RM Management Console.
Note Q: is the drive letter designated for the RMManage\Packages folder on the server.
3. In the newly-created folder, create another folder called Shortcuts. In the newly-created Shortcuts folder, create another folder with the name Autograph 3.
For example, for Program1 you will need to create the following folder structure: Q:\Applications\Program1\Shortcuts\Autograph 3
Now continue with the section, Copying the Windows Installer package to the server, below.
To copy the Windows Installer package to the server
1. At the server, log on as a system administrator.
2. From the program’s installation disk or folder, copy the entire contents of the folder containing the Windows Installer package (.msi file), and any subfolders, into
Q:\Applications\Autograph 3
folder you created in step 2 of the procedure, To create the folder structure on the server. Also copy into this folder the transform (.mst) file and the Autograph 3.ini file that you created previously in the section ‘Creating a Transform File (.mst)’
3. In the RM Management Console, select the Workstations option, right-click Main Site and then choose Update Package List.
4. Allocate the package to the workstations using the steps in ‘Allocating the Package to Workstations’

Copying shortcuts to the server
To copy the program’s shortcuts to the server
1. At the workstation to which you installed the new package, log on as a system administrator.
2. Locate any shortcuts which relate to the program you installed either by looking on the desktop or browsing
C:\Documents\Settings\All Users\StartMenu\Programs.
3. Copy any shortcuts you find to the folder:
Q:\Applications\Autograph 3\Shortcuts\Autograph 3.
4. Using the RM Management Console, Resources, Program Sets option, make the shortcuts available to groups of users. They will be listed under Package for Autograph 3. For full instructions on how to make shortcuts available, refer to the RM Management Console, Resources Help.
