Dear Parents, Sept. 20, 2013

Our field trip next Friday is from 8:30-1:30. Students should wear their Faith Friday shirt with appropriate jeans/shorts. Our drivers are Ms. Everett, Mrs. Sullivan, and Mrs. Allard. If one of the drivers is willing to return to the school during the field trip, we’ll be able to order sack lunches from the school. If you can do this, please contact me by Monday morning. Mrs. Cincotti will need time to pull sack lunches for 3 grades together.

The class has done a great job at addition with regrouping. We’ll continue this skill next week. Our lessons will be on pages 86-93. We will be adding with 3 addends, adding greater numbers, and working with word problems. On Oct. 1st or 2nd we should have our test.

Our next story is The Boy Who Didn’t Believe in Spring. We were able to read almost all of it today. Students are to read page 114-120, but they may read further since we made our predictions today.

This week we were excited to receive our first edition of Scholastic News. We read the magazine together and discuss the articles and the questions. Then the students answer the questions independently. This week’s issue will count as a grade in both Reading and Social Studies.

When you are reading with your child this weekend, please have them point out some of the nouns in the sentences of the story. This is a good way to review our English lessons from the week. Next week we move on to identifying common and proper nouns. The nouns must be capitalized correctly for the answer to be correct. The same goes for spelling plural nouns in lesson 4 of the unit.

We wrapped up our chapter in Social Studies. There is a study guide in the Friday Folder. The test will be on Tuesday. We will review again on Monday. Our next chapter teaches us about urban, rural, and suburban communities.

We should be ready for a Science test on Wednesday over chapter 1: Living Things. I’ll try to send the study guide home on Monday. Our field trip to Jeffers Bend fits in nicely with this chapter.

In Religion we should finish chapter 3, but will not have time for a test until the following week. I was very pleased by Mass participation today. In addition, this week’s Mass readers did a fabulous job. Thank you for practicing with them at home. Next week, Nico and Carly will read on Tuesday.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

God bless,

Mrs. Lee
