International Classroom telecommunications with South Korea –emerging research

Focus:

You will receive a basic introduction to the Republic of South Korea’s education system. You will hear about research being conducted into school partnership links via telecommunications (synchronous and asynchronous) and how such curriculum sharing impacts on cultural and language learning in particular. Work with the USA and the DET Global LYNC project will be explored. Participants will have opportunities to interact and ask questions during this presentation.

Presenter: Professor Keong Ku Ph.D. Keimyung University, South Korea (Visiting Victoria November 8th – 14th )

Short Bio: Keong Ku, Ph.D. expertizes in global tele collaborative learning in K-12 class settings. With research grant by National Research Foundation of Korea (2014-2016), she manages the Global LYNCs project with two areas: One field is that Korean K-12 student’s tele collaborative with Australian K-12 pees (with support of Victoria School District, Australia) and thetele collaborative learning is being done both synchronously through ZOOM (mainly PPT presentation) and asynchronously (email exchanges). The other field is to connect Korean elementary school students and American elementary school students. Due to the time difference, the connection between Korea and America is made only asynchronously through blogging. She has studied how Korean EFL grade-level learners benefit from tele collaborative with native peers with a focus of their affective factors, Intercultural Competence, and EFL writing ability.
