Rubric for the Two Matching Slab Plates

1. A sketch was drawn and approved before starting plates. Name & period are engraved on bottom of plates.
2. Plates are 4” x 4”, 4” x 6”, or 6” x 6
3. Plates match in size, 4” x 4” ,4” x 6”, 6” x 6”
4. Plates match in shape or theme.
5. Plates are constructed using ¼” slabs of clay.
6. Edges of plates are curved up (not pinched up) and are not drooping.
7. Centers are flat & not sagging
8. Edges are smooth and rounded, not jagged.
9. Plates are representative of the student’s chosen theme.
10. A base foot is properly attached to each plate.
11. The foot on each plate is level and not lumpy.
12. The bottoms of the plates are smooth, & score marks & slip where foot was applied are not visible.
13. The foot on each plate stayed attached after drying and firing.
14. Any design that has been incised (carved) or applied onto plates is smooth and free from furrows created by the tools while creating the design.
15. The incised or applied design did not cut through the plates and did not cause the piece to break.
16. The pieces show good craftsmanship.
17. Plates are interesting and inviting to use
Each plate is worth 10 points and 20 points as a set.

§  Put your name on this rubric with an ink pen as soon as you get it, and give it to the instructor when your work is ready to grade. Lost rubrics will be $1 to replace.

§  Put your initials and # of the period you are in on the bottom of the plates before they are dry. NO I.D. = NO GRADE AND NO FIRING IN THE KILN.
