Applying Chemistry Summative Project

Your task is to apply your chemistry understandings to the world outside of the classroom--beyond what we have already done! Make sure to explain the physical & chemical changes and properties along with the Particle Theory of Matter to whatever situation you choose from the list below.

Criteria: your Project must include...

  • Great Understanding of Chemistry Content
  • Proper scientific vocabulary
  • Describe & explain particle arrangement & movement of at least 3 phases:
  • Solid, Liquid, Gas, and/or Plasma
  • Describe & give specific information about howat least 3 phase change processesoccur during each change in state:
  • melting, freezing, condensation, evaporation, sublimation, ionization
  • Describe & explain 1 physical & 1 chemical property of matter you encounter
  • Describe & explain 1 physical & 1 chemical change of matter that occurs
  • Well-Organized Ideas
  • a visual way of showing your well-organized product
  • Google Slideshow, Written Story (on Google Docs), brochure or other ideas welcome (check with your teacher first though!!—
  • The focus is on the content, not the technology!)
  • If your project is digital, it will be submitted digitally (through Google Drive)
  • The finished product for this project is due at the end of class on Wed, 11/25

2 / A scientific chef making a meal / A New Show: Food Network meets Bill Nye / Magazine article, recipe, cooking “show” (slideshow ok) / The physical and chemical properties and changes of the food as you make it. Food is matter that follows the particle theory of matter. (yes! Even in real-life!)
3 / Particle of Matter / Matter that has never experienced a change in state / A postcard, brochure, slideshow about your travels to other states...of matter. / Discuss your travels through the 4 states of matter. Include how particles move, behave, & change through the states (evaporation, melting, etc.).
Also be sure to describe some physical and chemical properties and physical/chemical changes of some matter that you see during your travels.
4 / Meteorologist / Viewers / Weather Report / Give a weather report for an area or a country that has all 3 forms (S,L,G) of matter & all of the phase changes (evaporation, melting, etc.)
Describe some of the physical and chemical properties & changes of a selected piece of matter that relates to the report.

Hayday Game / gamers worldwide / Player guide, instructional manual, or overview of new additions to the platform / Discuss how the 4 states of matter would be experienced or navigated in either game. Include how particles would move, behave, & change through the states (evaporation, melting, etc.) and how that connects to the game itself.
Also be sure to describe some physical and chemical properties and any changes of some matter that you see in the game.
6 / Matter Superhero / The World of Matter / Superhero Bio
(all about you) page OR Comic Strip / Write from the perspective of one state of matter that will save the world from certain doom. Be sure to describe how you (as 1 type of matter) move, behave, and change in comparison to other states of matter.
Weave into your story how phase changes affect you (or the world) & some observations of the physical and chemical properties & changes of the World of Matter around you.
