OBSERVATION OF TEACHING & LEARNING AWARD

(Learning & Skills) - Level 4

Are you ready for the September 2012 Common Inspection Framework changes - putting teaching & learning at the heart of inspection?

Would you like to evidence that your observers have been appropriately trained and are qualified to undertake rigorous observations?

This University of Hull accredited observer training programme is a L4 10 credit module involving study delivered through a blend of taught sessions and work based practice and assessment.

Attendance is required at two taught workshops then students will work independently undertaking observations within their own organisation and providing reports for assessment purposes. Online feedback and support will be provided.

The programme will be delivered by a current registered additional Ofsted inspector andwill support the provider’s quality improvement processes by providing useful evidence for those due for inspection or aiming for self-regulation

WHO?

This programme is ideal for teachers and managers who carry out observations to assess the standard and quality of the learning experience in line with Ofsted’s Common Inspection Framework.

Programmelearning outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the various types of T&L observation the difference between them
  2. Develop competence & techniques for preparing and undertaking observations
  3. Develop competence in the collection analysis of a diverse range of evidence to formulate sound judgements on the standard of TLA against Ofsted’s Common Inspection Framework (Sept 2012)
  4. Develop competence in assessing TLA to arrive at an accurate grade
  5. Develop competence in delivering effective feedback to the observee
  6. Be able to write an accurate & evaluative report of the observation to meet the requirements of moderation and validation
  7. Demonstrate how observation leads to improvements in standards and quality of TLA

Assessment

  1. Formative assessment will be through a portfolio of assessment tasks including class activities, practical assessments & a written observation report.
  2. Summative assessment will be through undertaking a joint observation with a practicing Ofsted inspector & providing a follow up report

Entry requirements:

Potential delegates will

  1. hold a level 4 teaching qualification
  2. have a minimum of 3 years relevant teaching experience
  3. have the opportunity to undertake observations of teaching and learning
