About BOMA
Founded in 2006, The BOMA Project is a Kenyan NGO and a U.S. 501C3 non-profit with a transformative approach and track record in alleviating poverty and building resilience in the arid and semi-arid regions of Africa.
Through a two-year poverty graduation programme called the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP), BOMA helps women “graduate” from extreme poverty by giving them the tools they need to start small businesses and establish a savings programme in their communities. With this new and diversified source of income, they can feed their families, pay for school fees and medical care, accumulate savings for long-term stability, survive drought and adapt to a changing climate.
Plans are currently underway to expand to two new countries in 2017. BOMA’s data-driven model provides strong evidence of impact towards the goal of ending extreme poverty in Northern Kenya's arid lands, a subject of growing interest for multi-lateral donors—especially in the context of climate change and a renewed focus on gender-focused programmes.

Role Objectives
You will be building a business case for BOMA's engagement in poverty graduation and creating persuasive arguments for the organization to add value to its potential partners. To expand their scope and strengthen their programme, you will hire a strong team of technical advisers to improve organizational systems, processes, research and monitoring and evaluation (M&E).
In your first six months, having understood how to leverage BOMA's M&E, research and digital successes, you will be expected to lead the organization towards its 2021 target by reinforcing partnerships to replicate programmes; starting pilot programmes in Somalia and Uganda; stewarding existing donor relationships; and securing new funding opportunities for the 2017 funding cycle.
About You
You have strong programme knowledge in the fields of social justice, humanitarian assistance or poverty eradication with some understanding of the contexts in arid and semi-arid areas of Africa. Your understanding of what motivates rural beneficiaries, your awareness of the dynamics of multi-cultural contexts and global perspectives, coupled with an ability to implement innovative approaches and new ways of working are all qualities needed to lead BOMA's new Business Plan towards its 2021 target.
Essentials
Reporting to the CEO of BOMA, you will serve as the leader of the organization in East Africa in all management areas of programmes, representation, performance management, finance, HR, partnerships and fundraising.
We expect you to demonstrate:
· Leadership & strategy: entrepreneurial, creative and big-picture thinking with the vision to grow the organization.
· Internal leadership: the skills and experience to motivate and empower staff to lead change.
· Operational experience: understanding of how to build and scale an effective organization and manage performance metrics, HR systems and processes.
· Partnerships: strong representation skills with connections and experience to influence and attract new partners and resources.
· A persistent attitude: an ambitious and hands-on approach with a passion for helping poor women and girls to end their poverty, ready to strive to take BOMA to the next level.
