Transition Arrangements
This qualification was republished to extend the last date of entry to 31 December 2017. This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Textile Manufacturing (Level 4) with an optional strand in Technical Leadership [Ref: 2978].
The last date for entry into programmes leading to this qualification is 31 December 2017.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to Competenz at the address below. Appeals will be considered on a case by case basis.

Purpose
This is a national certificate for people working in the carpet manufacturing industry. The qualification builds on the National Certificate in Carpet Manufacture (Carpet Tufting) (Level 3) [Ref: 0281] and is a means of recognising skills and knowledge that people have achieved in advanced carpet tufting. People who have achieved this qualification will have the skills and knowledge necessary to tuft multi-level cut and loop pile carpet, and tuft carpet on both graphics and enhanced graphics tufters. They will also be able to inspect and mend patterned unbacked carpet, and will have gained skills in communications and management.
This qualification can lead to a National Certificate in Carpet Manufacture (Carpet Tufter Tuning) (Level 5) [Ref: 0280] if people want to move into this area of specialisation within the carpet manufacture industry.
2regulations for the qualification
2.1entry information for programmes of education and training assessed against the unit standards in the qualification
Prerequisite: National Certificate in Carpet Manufacture (Carpet Tufting) (Level 3) [Ref: 0281], or have demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills.
Because of the need for work place training in the operation of industry specific equipment, it is recommended that only people employed in a textile processing plant with the equipment required enrol on a programme leading to this qualification.
Because of the need for good colour vision, it is recommended that people entering the qualification have passed an Ishihara Colour Test, or equivalent.

Prior learning will be recognised at both unit standard and qualification level.

Version 2
This qualification was updated and issued as version 2 in December 2001 to require trainees to demonstrate a wider range of skills in the management and/or communication skills areas.
Changes to structure and content:
- unit standard 1984 is no longer specified in this qualification but can be used towards meeting the elective requirement of this version;
- an elective section has been added;
- the overall credit total has increased from 45 to 55;
- a field name and names of standard setting bodies have been updated.
People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of earlier versions of this qualification may either complete those versions of the qualification or transfer to this version. The last date for award of previous versions is 31 December 2003.
Any version of a unit standard contained within this qualification which retains its original unit standard identification number will continue to meet the requirements of this qualification.
