Job Title:Capital Bid Writer

Department:Funding & Contracts

Responsible to:Director of Operations and Programmes

Location:Nottinghamshire YMCA

Hours:37.5 hours per week mainly Monday - Friday but with some weekend and evening work required

Contract Type:Temporary for up to 12 months

Salary:Circa £30,000per annum

Job Purpose

  • To identify appropriate capital funding opportunities toenhance existing services and to develop new programmes in line with our vision and mission (in the fields of Youth Work, Housing, Childrens and School Services, Health & Fitness, Social Care and management of community facilities)
  • To liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver major capital projects from feasibility through to design, business case approval,bid writing,tendering and procurement (where appropriate), collation and completion.To provide technical, project management and cost plan support to capital projects during the design and feasibility stages.
  • To support revenue and tendering projects

Principal Responsibilities

1Capital Income generation

1.1To identify appropriate large (>£1 million) capital funding opportunities to enhance existing services and new programmes primarily in the fields of housing, sports and community asset development

1.2To create feasibility studies for each new potential capital project then subsequent capital appeals, comprising income from gifts from individuals, grant-making trusts, from companies, statutory funds (where applicable) and community events/giving

1.3To develop key relationships with new and existing capital funders

1.4To identifylocal and national funders suitable for Nottinghamshire YMCA and work with the Funding and Contracts Manager to maintain ongoing database of prospects and funders

1.5To have a full understanding of allYMCA programmaticareas

1.6To identify appropriate quality standards and strategic policies required by Nottinghamshire YMCA and help to ensure that appropriate policies are kept relevant and up-to-date

2Support for revenue projects

2.1To work in partnership with Funding & Contracts Manager to write and collate successful tenders, capital bids, grant applications and funding applications

2.2To support with other revenue applications

2.3 To integrate capital appeal activity with ongoing revenue fundraising ensuring that capital appealscomplement ongoing revenue fundraising

3Partnership working

3.1To develop strong, productiverelationships with capital funders

3.2To work in partnership withinternal stakeholders to create feasibility studies and associated business plans

3.3To liaise with the internal stakeholders and other colleagues in devising approach strategies, and drafting and submitting capital appeals

3.4To develop and negotiate complex commissioning partnership arrangements with other VCS, private and statutory organisations in response to tender opportunities

1Ambassador for the YMCA

To act as an advocate and ambassador of the YMCA; promoting and exemplifying the YMCA’s core values, mission, vision, and ethos and to positively and proactively protect the YMCA’s reputation.

2 Other Duties

To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by your Line Manager or anyone else designated by the Chief Executive Officer, as necessary. To work in a flexible way to ensure that workload is completed and to undertake any other jobs commensurate with the seniority of the post.

3 Discretion to Act

To exercise discretion in the performance of the duties of the post, to use best practice and to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
