New Business

The November meeting will be postponed until 11/16 since there is no school on 11/2.

Our craft/vendor show is on Saturday, October 10th. Craft show begins at 9:00 AM. Classes will be selling food as fundraisers. Sales include:

Seniors – Hot dogs, bagels, popcorn

Juniors – Meatball subs

Sophomores – baked goods, hot chocolate

Freshman – soda, water, juice

The fall show “Picnic at Hanging Rock” will be held on November 13 & 14. We need volunteers to help, providing donations of pasta, hot dogs, soda, etc for all those participating in the show. Children will have to be at the Strand Theater all day, and into the evening. We are also looking for volunteers to sell 50/50 tickets during the 11/14 show. We will be asking the parents of the drama performance to send in a $5 donation to help feed the children during the week of the show.

A $20 donation each month will be given to the class fundthat has the most parental attendance at each PTO meeting.

Headshots will take place again this year, however it will be at the photo studio instead of at school. There will be different packages available, ranging in price with the lowest starting at $75. This is a minimal package and the sitting is a quick session. Headshot forms are available on the website,

We are looking into the possibility of having PAA key chains available for purchase. Glenn Jusczak will get samples that can be used for fundraising.

We are looking at having a clothing drive some time in April. We can make a significant amount of money; however clothing will have to be delivered only during the week of pick-up from the vendor.

We will be having our Holiday Giving Tree again this year for the teachers, and it will make its first appearance at the fall show at the Strand Theater during the week of 11/9. After that, the tree will be by the front door of the school.

Talent Show – this will be a great fundraiser. Linda Bogan is looking presently for a Chairperson. The site is planned for the VFW in Brick and scheduled for 3/26/10. Carraba’s restaurant will be providing the food, and the cost is being investigated. This year, there will be a gift auction, but we will only be auctioning off three or four large baskets instead of many smaller baskets. Each class may be asked to choose a scene from a play, drama, musical or comedy and perform that act. The winner will be awarded a check for the class fund in the amount of $250. It is questionable at this time if parents or teachers will be able to perform in the talent show.

Special Discussions

The Breast Cancer Walk held at Six Flags in partnership with Ms. Huhmann was a great success.

It was agreed that the PTSO will continue giving gift cards to the teachers who chaperone dances. Each function requires at least three teachers (who do not get compensated for their time), and this is a way to show our appreciation.

A letter of thanks is being sent to the student from OCVTS computer class who re-designed our PTSO website. We will also provide bagels for the computer class.

The PTSO reached out to the teachers and asked them for a “wish list”. Teachers responded with their wishes, and it was voted on and agreed that we will be providing the following items to those teachers who submitted their “wish lists”.

  • Lighting for the Tech Department
  • 2 Camera’s for the Yearbook Committee
  • One camera will be purchased by the PTSO
  • One camera is being donated by Mr. & Mrs. Cantalupo
  • Video Camera for the Dance Department

With the donation of cameras, our Yearbook Staff is looking into the possibility of being able to e-share yearbook photos with parents. Senior Sara Leone was present at our meeting to explain this to the parents.

We will be looking into getting PAA patches, and making them available for $5.00. Some students are ordering jackets from their home schools and still want to display their PAA spirit.

Glenn Juszczak has requested that the Interact Club look into a program being designed through the Lacey Rotary Society that will be similar to American Idol. The Rotary Society will be holding different performances for middle school and high school students. The first one will be the end of January 2010 at BarnegatHigh School for middle school students to perform. It may be possible for PAA students to perform the opening act at this mock “Idol”. We will also look into the possibility of having a teacher judge the event. The second event will take place the end of February 2010 and be in Manahawkin for high school students. Again, PAA students may be asked to perform the opening number, and a member of the staff asked to be a judge. More information is needed, and Mr. Jucazak will be forwarding this information as it becomes available.

The week of 10/21/09 is “Broadway Cares, Equity Fights Aids”, and red ribbon bracelets may be sold by ITS for this cause.

Comments:

A recommendation was made to notify staff and students when a PAA student performs in an outside performance. Will add this to our website in the near future.

It was suggested that we look into a Father/Daughter Dinner Dance. This is actually a senior class opportunity, not a PTSO event so Sharon Madden will bring the information to the class advisor so the senior class officers can decide on it.

A request was made to for Mrs. Homiek to look into having the hot water spigots in the cafeteria repaired. Some complaints were made that you cannot get hot water from the water coolers.

A request was made to eliminate popcorn from the dances. At the last dance the floor was a mess from popcorn.

At the last dance many participants came without their ID badges. A recommendation was made to come up with a way to make sure all children bring their ID badges to the dances. A parent stated that Mr. Quist made the recommendation to have a staff member at the gate during dances.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 PM, motioned by M. Gallagher, and seconded by T. McWeeney.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ATTENDED OUR 1ST MEETING. IT WAS A LONG ONE BUT WE COVERED MANY THINGS. THE NEXT ONE PROMISES TO BE MUCH QUICKER. THE MEETING MINUTES WILL BE POSTED ON THERE SHORTLY.
