Technology Tip Sheet Copying Audacity files to a CD in the Lab
With Windows 7.0, you can now copy Audacity and other files directly to a CD that you can use throughout the semester to save all of your recordings from different Lab sessions—without needing to “burn” a CD.
Here’s how you do it:
Saving and Exporting Your Recording
1. To save your file, click “EXPORT,” then select “Save as type” WAV (if not already selected).
2. Save on D: Drive of Lab computer, or you may save the file on a USB thumb drive as you would any other file.
3. IF YOU GET THIS ERROR MESSAGE,” The operation has been cancelled,” click OK, then click the up-arrow/ folder icon. Click up to the Desktop level, then click “Computer” then “Local Disc D:”
4. Give your file a distinctive name so that you can easily find it on the D: drive.
Copying to a CD
1. Insert a CD into the CD/DVD tray of the computer.
2. Click “Computer” icon on Desk Top, then D: drive and find your file.
3. Hold down left mouse button and drag file on to DVD/RW Drive (in left column).
4. IF IT IS A NEW BLANK CD, it will ask you “How do you want to use this disc?” CLICK “Like a USB flash drive” (not like a CD). It will automatically format and copy the file onto the disc.
5. IF IT A DISC WITH A FILE OR RECORDING ALREADY ON IT, it will begin to automatically copy the file onto the disc as soon as you drag it to the DVD/RW Drive.
6. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO “BURN” YOUR FILE USING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER.
7. You can add additional sessions to this same disc throughout the semester.
8. Be sure to label your CD.
