Course Syllabus

Year long course- 1 credit

Students are required to maintain a notebook to turn in every nine weeks. This is to be contained in a three- ring binder. (See attached outline)

Students are required to plan and present lesson plans during playschool sessions. Students will be teachers and assistants.

Child Care Services Notebook Outline and Evaluation Sheet

Name______9 weeks grading period

Directions: 1. The notebook each 9 weeks grading will contain the items

listed below.

2. Use dividers. Divide by each 9 weeks grading period.

3. Before turning notebook in for evaluation insert a copy of

this grade sheet at the beginning of that 9 weeks section.

4. Keep all information throughout the entire school year.

_____ 1. Completed Papers (worksheets, puzzles, questions, other important information). (5 points)

_____ 2. Class Notes (labeled with date and topic). (5 points)

_____ 3. 2 Newspaper or magazine article critiques that deal with child development issues. Use the magazine summary sheet. (20 points/10 points each)

_____ 4. 1 Bulletin board or display idea drawn off and with patterns if needed. Give the purpose of the bulletin board. (10 points)

_____ 5. 2 teaching activities written out in detail to use with preschool children. Worksheets and coloring pages are not acceptable. (20 points/10 points each)

_____ 6. 2 art or game ideas with patterns and supplies needed. Also a written explanation of how you would use this with preschoolers. (20 points/10 points each)

_____ 7. 2 snack ideas with recipes and market orders. Pictures if possible. (20 points/10 points each)

_____ 8. Other information you find that would be beneficial to you as your work with children.

Expectations

1.  Students are to actively participate in their daily discussion and assignments.

2.  Students are to turn in all assignments on time.

3.  Students will participate in playschool.

4.  Students will take notes during discussion.

5.  Students will complete a portfolio piece.

6.  Students will clean up their area each day.

7.  Students will have good attendance.

8.  Students will have good behavior.

Rules

1.  No cell phones allowed

2.  Be on time for class or receive break detention and sign-in at office.

3.  No disruptive behavior that will distract others from their lessons.

4.  Follow all BCHS rules at all times.

Consequences

1.  Warning

2.  Meeting with student to discuss behavior modification and break detention.

3.  Call home and discuss prior action with parent and decide on behavior modification with parent input.

4.  Referral to principal to discuss behavior modification and possible removal from course.
