For the first time, drive specialist ZEITLAUF® is presenting the robust and powerful Performax® Plus at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES
Lauf an der Pegnitz, 23 November 2010 - With respect to its innovative Performax® planetary gearhead series (patent pending), ZEITLAUF® antriebstechnik is introducing another milestone in drive technology with the unique Performax® Plus further development. The new concept which supplements the series impresses with extremely high torque and an especially robust design. Performax® Plus is ideally suited for use in rough and tough conditions. Compared to other competitor products with similar specifications, Performax® gearheads offer a very high performance density and excellent smoothness and reduction bandwidths. The ZEITLAUF® company has been successfully moving the drive technology market with its trendsetting gearhead concepts for over 50 years. The high-performance Performax® Plus planetary gearhead is a technologically outstanding extension of the Performax® series, and closes the performance gap in an area that requires particularly high output performance. At nearly double the torque values which can be achieved by the larger gear widths in the input stage and hollow wheel toothing made of hardened steel in the output stage, the Performax® Plus gearheads represent a truly powerful package.
The special performance levels which characterise the entire Performax® series are based on a design solution in which ZEITLAUF® makes optimum use of the installation space that is available in the gearhead: by using a radial screw joint for the individual housing components, it is possible to achieve a maximum usable diameter for the hollow wheel toothing. Solutions using axial screw joints, as used by many competitors, limit the installation space that can be used for the toothing, resulting in relatively small hollow wheel diameters and a limited capacity to transfer loads. ZEITLAUF® is again setting new trends and impressively demonstrates how designs can be small and easy on resources, as performance is virtually unbeatable in relation to the very small installation space.
Difficult operating conditions? No problem!
The over-dimensioning of drives frequently implemented in the past is everything but timely these days. For "reasons of safety", designs above performance values have been implemented particularly for tough environmental conditions. With Performax® Plus, the drive specialist has again designed a technically leading solution. The housing for the output stage is completely made of steel, subsequently hardened for application purposes, and hence extremely robust. As a result, due to their capabilities, compact gear motors can be used where other providers are already forced to work with larger sizes. Often, there is also a lack of corresponding shock strength for the drive unit, given comparable performance. ZEITLAUF® also provides evidence of its long-standing engineering competence and technological leadership role when it comes to efficiency, an important criterion in modern gearhead technology.
Capability par excellence
With the new Performax® Plus, the entire series covers a performance and application bandwidth that stands alone. Ideally coordinated, it always provides the right performance level for a number of different application areas. In addition, using the optional HRL radial load level it is also possible to absorb extra high radial loads. Depending on the output speed, radial forces of up to 2000 N may be transferred.
The Performax® family also sets itself apart with respect to reductions. Reductions of up to 17:1 in one stage represent stand-alone performance criteria in the drive market - maximum utilisation of capacity with a minimum of installation space. An added feature is the fact that reductions are harmoniously levelled and are intentionally organised at a finer level particularly in the area of small reductions. Long-standing engineering competence also allows for motor shaft toothing with three teeth, and with only one tooth in special cases. Finally, the optimal alignment of gear reduction and motor capacity turn the planetary gear series into a modular gearhead concept with the highest performance orientation. This is also reflected in the future-oriented concept related to the selection of motors, where modern EC and BLDC motors in particular offer outstanding possibilities. The adjusted performance densities of Performax® Plus are optimally aligned to these new motor concepts. Another advantage is achieved by the modification option for the housing, making it easy to implement drive concepts used to adapt to customer-specific installation spaces.

About the company
ZEITLAUF® was founded in 1957. The company first produced timers, and subsequently developed a broad range of products consisting of spur, planetary and angle gearheads with crown technology and customer-specific special solutions, which allowed the company to develop into a technology leader.
