Job Profile: Registered Respite Care Manager – Dementia Care and Complex Needs

Quality, service user care and best practice in all aspects of service delivery/operations.
Staff performance monitoring through supervision with care staff to achieve desired results and outcomes.
Ensuring physical building (and surrounds) is compliant with CQC regulations and safe.
Job Purpose: / To take a key role in developing sustainable respite care services for older people living with dementia and other complex needs residing within South Staffordshire. Maximise the potential of individuals to access respite care and create an environment orientated to trust, open communication, creative thinking and a cohesive team effort.
To work closely with the Service Manager and Team Supervisor to maximise the customer journey and integrate Respite Carewithin Age UK South Staffordshire’s person centred provision to optimise the customer experience and maximise return.
Responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality care services in line with customer need, contract compliances (if applicable) and regulatory criteria. Ensure compliance to all CQC requirements, monitoring and reports to evidence performance against criteria set by CQC.
Developing loyalty from existing customers, attracting new customers and building significant brand equity.
  1. General Duties
  1. To comply with Care Quality Commission standards and be available to them if information is required or a site visit occurs, working with the Service Manager.
  1. Provide coaching and guidance to the care team to ensure best practice is maintained and innovation developed.
  1. To be a competent role model to the team.
  1. To plan the working rotas as necessary for the efficient provision of care for all service users in a way that respects the dignity of the individual at all times.
  1. To attend all relevant training/staff meetings.
  1. Support and help educate other Age UK colleagues in the specialism of dementia care.
  1. Contribute to the Safeguarding of Adults and fulfilling requirements under the County Council Safeguarding Policy and Procedures.
  1. To work flexibly over seven days including weekends and bank holidays, to be available to cover staff absences if required, until other measures are put in place. Undertake any other duties which may be reasonably assigned to you.
  1. Development and Planning
  1. Participate in policy development and planning relevant to Respite Care (with the Service Manager).
  1. Keep up to date with the developments and trends in Respite Care Services provision and any other relevant implementation of policy that affects specific areas of service provision and development.
  1. Advocate, practice and support the person centred approach in organising activities for service users to provide stimulation, occupation and support.
  1. Encourage and maintain contact with service users and their families to ensure continued bookings for respite are taken.

3Staffing

  1. To be responsible for the overall line management and development of the care team. Ensure staff contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient operation of The Respite Centre and manage poor performance effectively.
  1. To be responsible for assessing training needs and ensuring that the relevant level of training, development and coaching is available to all team members, that training is met, aiming to improve the individual and organisational effectiveness.
  1. In conjunction with the Service Manager, assist in the recruitment/shadowing and assessment of new staff members.

4Assessment

  1. To respond appropriately to enquiries and bookings for respite care, in accordance to procedures within a specified timeframe.
  1. Visit prospective service users and assess suitability according to criteria.
  1. In conjunction with Service Manager predict future service requirements, including the resources required.
  1. In conjunction with Service Manager review operational processes and procedures to ensure quality and compliance to required standards (CQC).
  1. To participate in the emotional, mental and physical care of service users, aiming to provide, as far as possible, a happy stimulating and safe environment.
  1. Lead with the support of the care team the planning of daily schedules focusing on the purpose of the activity and potential outcomes.

5General Administration

  1. The Respite Care Manager will carry out administration and performance management work connected with the provision of the service.
  1. AttendAge UK South Staffordshire meetings where appropriate.
  1. To maintain accurate, concise, up-to-date and timely records of service users care, daily observations, medication records and financial transactions.

6.Financial

The Respite Care Manager will:

  1. Maintain a petty cash float for the purpose of small items of stationery, payment of volunteers’ expenses and subsidising expenses, etc.
  1. Overseebanking and collecting of Respite Care monies
  1. Other Duties

The Respite Care Manager will undertake any other relevant tasks associated with the service not specifically mentioned, which may arise from time to time.

Experience of providing support to people in a respite care environment & understand the needs of older people living with dementia / 
Experience of reviewing, recording and updating care plans, preferably using an electronic recording system / 
Experience of assessing, observing and monitoring service users’ needs. / 
CQF / NVQ 5 in Health & Social Care or equivalent preferably with a Registered Care Managers award. / 
Level 5 Leadership and Management in Social Care / 
Management experience / 
Willing to undertake any training relevant to the role / 
Experience of service development / 
