Instructions for the SolidWorks - STEM Course.

The SolidWorks – STEM Course was created for the professional development of teachers.

By default, the SolidWorks Curriculum and Courseware CD installs in C:\Program Files.

The folder, C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Curriculum_and_Courseware_2005-2006\SolidWorks Teacher Guide\Language\English (ENG) contains PowerPoint presentations and a .pdf file, SolidWorks Teacher Guide.

Step 1. Open the SolidWorks Teacher Guide ENG.pdf file. The SolidWorks Teacher Guide contains 11 lessons.

Step 2. Read Lesson1.pdf and the Lesson1-Overhead.pdf file. Lesson 1 is an Overview of the User Interface.

Step 3. Read Lesson2.pdf and the Lesson2-Overhead.pdf file. Lesson 2 contains an overview of basic functionality. In this exercise you will create your first SolidWorks part. Each Lesson has a corresponding PowerPoint presentation. Review the PowerPoint presentation and work through each Lesson.

Step 4. Lesson 3 requires you to utilize the SolidWorks Online Tutorials. These tutorials are accessed through Tools, Online Tutorials from the Main toolbar. Lesson 3 in the SolidWorks Teacher Guide utilizes the SolidWorks Online Tutorial called Lesson1 – Part.

Step 5. Repeat Step 4 for Lessons 4 through 11.

There are 31 Online Tutorials in all but you only have to work through the ones with the corresponding PowerPoint slides and Lessons in the SolidWorks Teacher Guide. The other Online Tutorials lead to more advanced topics in 3D modeling.

Step 6. Perform a STEM exercise. In addition, on the http://blogs.solidworks.com/teacher/ web site, there are exercises to illustrate math, science and engineering principles. They are available for different math levels. These exercises can be performed at anytime.

Once you create your own lesson in Micorsoft Word, your lesson will be posted to this blog. There will be a form for blog submission.

Timeline

We know teachers are busy with many commitments. The intent is to develop the blog with many lessons from our teachers. Although the course was developed around a 12 week time schedule, we are flexible. One goal is to have a series of lessons available in August. The second goal is to develop a teacher community where instructors can go for examples and to publish there own work.
