THE PENINSULA SHANGHAI PARTNERS WITH

THE SHANGHAI AUTO MUSEUM TO SHOWCASE

VINTAGE AUTOMOBILES AT THE PENINSULA ARCADE

Heritage car aficionados can get into gear for a calendar of exciting automobile experiences as the result of a strategic partnership between The Peninsula Shanghai and the Shanghai Auto Museum, the first dedicated auto museum in China. A gala celebration will be held for invited guests and the media in early January 2014 to commemorate the signing of this milestone collaboration.

The Peninsula Shanghai’s dedication to automobile history is legendary. It is the only luxury hotel in Shanghai with a customised car fleet, including four bespoke Extended Wheelbase Rolls-Royce Phantoms, six BMW Peninsula Edition cars, and an immaculately restored 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II, all finished in signature Peninsula racing green. Earlier next year, two custom-made MINI Cooper S Clubman cars will join the fleet.

The Shanghai Auto Museum is located in the Auto Expo Park at Shanghai International Automobile City in Anting, which is 50 minutes car ride away from Shanghai. Featuring a history museum, a modern technology exhibition hall, a vintage auto collection museum, and a car brand culture exhibition hall, the Shanghai Auto Museum counts a stunning collection of more than 80 antique vehicles from China and overseas, which together span a history of more than 100 years.

The highlight of the collaboration between The Peninsula Shanghai and the Shanghai Auto Museum will be a vintage car display at The Peninsula Arcade, with heritage cars loaned to the hotel on a rotation basis. The classic cars exhibited over the coming months will include a 1960 Fiat 500, a 1941 Buick Super Model 56-S, a 1951 Jaguar XK 120, and a 1957 Chrysler 300C.

In addition, The Peninsula Shanghai’s Academy programme offers guests a chance to enjoy the China Motor City experience. This exciting journey begins with a chauffeured ride in a BMW limousine to the Shanghai Auto Museum. Guests enjoy a private tour from the museum’s curator

of the five different pavilions, and will learn about the high-speed histories and unique technological features of the antique cars on display, and their links to the city of Shanghai. The trip finishes with a private lunch in the museum’s VIP lounge.
