Call to worship (from Psalm 34:1-8)

Minister: I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

ALL: My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad.

Minister: Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

ALL: Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.

Minister: The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

ALL: Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

Sunday 8th August 2010

‘We're not doing right. This is a day of good news

and we are keeping it to ourselves...’ 2 Kings 7:9

Led by God, we join together in joyful and reverent worship, seeking unity and maturity in Christ, preparing every believer to share and show God’s Hope as revealed in His Word.

Welcome! We meet together for worship today in Dingwall at 11.00 am and 6 pm. The minister, Rev Angus MacRae, will lead our worship today.

Tonight there will be a 5-minute video on the recent flooding in Pakistan. The Free Church has sent £10,000 to Tear Fund to assist with immediate needs. Blythswood are appealing for cash donations to provide “Buckets of Love” to flood victims through trusted local partners. These are multi-purpose plastic buckets filled with useful essentials that will help families to carry on life with greater dignity and decent sanitation. Each bucket is assembled locally and costs around £9. Blythswood accept donations on-line at www.blythswood.org/bucketsoflove and on 0845 456 9460. The church can pass on donations for Pakistan direct to Blythswood or Tearfund. Please place any such gift in a clearly marked envelope.

Sunday School is on holiday but a crèche is available each Sunday morning – held in the church hall. Children leave for the crèche after the second singing.

The Record, Free and From the Frontiers magazines are available. Envelope sets for the Bus Fund and OMF Fund offerings are also available.

Youth Work: There is a short planning meeting at around 12.30 in the church today for anyone interested in helping this term as a leader at our Youth Club, or as a teacher in our Sunday School. If you can’t come today but would like to be involved do let the minister know. Pray for our youth work as we plan for the coming term. We will require more volunteers to staff Sunday School, Youth Club, and the Parent and Toddler group.

There is an offering today for our OMF partners, Sandra MacDonald and the Raes.

Congregational BBQ: All are most welcome to a BBQ on Saturday 21st August, when we will bid farewell to James and Vickie Ross. Join us at Finlay and Wendy MacKenzies home, Rowan Cottage from 2.30 pm. They live in a new house with a croft and barn located just beyond the Old Post Office at Knockfarrel. Food will be served from about 3.30 pm. All in the congregation are welcome. A commissioning service and presentation will take place next Sunday morning, 22nd August.

Conference on Worship: Our congregation is hosting a meeting of around 250-300 ministers and elders focusing on Biblical teaching on worship and particularly whether the Free Church should permit freedom to local churches to use hymns and instruments in worship as well as the singing of Psalms. We ask everyone to pray for wisdom, unity and peace. The conference will be held in Dingwall Free Church on the evening of Monday 23rd and all-day and evening on Tuesday 24th August. We would appreciate help with stewarding and serving hot drinks. Caterers will provide main meals to delegates. We would appreciate offers of overnight accommodation for some of the conference delegates from other parts of the country. Please sign up if you would like to help with stewarding, teas, or if you can provide a bed. We will also require some security to look after a marquee in the church grounds overnight on the Monday and Tuesday nights.

Spring Clean: Can you help us clean the church and gather extra furniture in preparation for the special conference on worship? Help is required in the afternoon gathering table and chairs. Help is required on evening of Friday 20th August from 6 to 8 pm to dust and clean the church.

An informal evening service is planned for Sunday 29th August – with a focus on Christ and Contemporary Culture. In our teaching we will ask what the gospel has to say to the folk rock band Mumford & Sons?
