Council Meeting – January 7, 2016

Mayor Thomas L. Hardesty calledthe regularmeeting to orderat 6:30 p.m. with the following council members present:Bobby Andriot, Mike Zoeller, Donna Eaton, Shane Suttor, Jon Swindler, and Frank Page.

City Employees Present: Mary Smith, Brad Haymond, Josh Tucker, Chief Baker, Brandon Pennington, and Carla Wainscott.

City Attorney: Steven Gregory

Invocation – Rev. Peed, Pastor, Buffalo Lick Baptist Church

All present pledged allegiance to the flag.

Minutes Regular Meeting December 17, 2015

Mayor Hardesty had one correction. In the Mayor’s report, change Louisville Water District to Louisville Water Company.

CouncilmemberSuttormoved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of December 17, 2015 as read by councilmembers prior to the meeting. Seconded by Councilmember Zoeller.

All voted “aye” and motion carried.

Ordinance No. 2016-01-07 - Amending the Salary Ranges as set out in Ordinance No. 2013-09-19 – 2ndReading – Steven Gregory, City Attorney

Steven Gregory, City Attorney, read an ordinance of the City of Shelbyville amending salary ranges as set out in Ordinance No. 2013-09-19.

Councilmember Suttor asked why some grades are up. Due to pay scales.

Councilmember Swindler introduced for a second reading. Seconded by Councilmember Page.

Upon roll call, the following councilmembers voted “aye”: Andriot, Zoeller, Eaton, Suttor, Swindler, and Page.

Public Comments

Brad Haymond, Beamtree Drive, Shelbyville, KY – Fire Captain Brad Haymond advised council and Mayor regarding the local toy drive for needy children. The department began with 60 children and took care of 100 children. We raised $3,500 in cash donations by fundraisers and programs at Rural King and Kroger. We want to thank them for letting us set-up. They also donated an estimate of $9,000 in toys. All other amounts were e-mailed to the Mayor in detail. A special thank you to Firefighter Dwayne Davis for all his time donated for such a worthy cause.

Department Reports

Mary Smith, Personnel Director, working on year end with Donna Bailey. Hired 2 new police officers Nick Fiscante and Bill White.

Eilene Collins, Shelby Main Director, Celebration of Lights meeting on January 11, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cardinal House to plan for 2016 festivities. The KY Main Street Winter Conference will be held January 12-14, 2016 at business district in Frankfort, KY.

Fire Chief Kevin Baker reported runs were way up from last year. The new fire truck is back and running with extended warranty.

Mayor’s Report

  • Two new police officers hired.
  • Legislative session opens this week.
  • Greenway Trail survived the flood.
  • Fire truck is back.
  • Jennifer Herrell said there were 2140 bags of leaves collected.
  • Condolences to Mr. Andriot and family.

Councilmember Swindler moved to go into closed session at 6:55 p.m. for the purpose to discuss future acquisition or sale of real property. Seconded by Councilmember Page.

All voted “aye” and motion carried.
