How to prepare for introducing DBQuest to your students

  1. Work through the DBQuest module yourself first so you’ll be able to answer students’ questions and to determine which mode—guided or freeform—is appropriate for your students. We suggest guided for middle school.
  2. Preview the teacher guide to get tips for teaching DBQuest, and look at the student handouts to decide which ones you want to use with your class.
  3. Confirm that your students have iCivics.org usernames and passwords and that they know their usernames and passwords.
  4. Assign the DBQuest module from your My iCivics dashboard. This lets students access the module and lets you track their progress and get their completed work.
  5. Observe and assist your students while they work through the tool.

Helpful hints for Step 2. Analyze

To move text from the source (on the left) to the boxes (on the right), you need only drag the text from the left and then release as soon as the box on the right highlights. You do NOT need to place the text squarely over the box.

You can also easily remove text from the boxes by dragging it back to the source and releasing.

One piece of text can only be in one box at a time. So if text on the left is highlighted in yellow, you can’t place it in a new box unless you first take it out of the box it is already in.
