Purpose / This unit standard is for people who work in a motorsport environment. People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare to collect competition race vehicle data, and record the information for evaluation.

2The MotorSport New Zealand regulations (motorsport regulations) and the New Zealand MotorSport Manual (motorsport manual) are available from the MotorSport New Zealand website The Motorsport Manual is subject to frequent amendment, and any amendments will take precedence for assessment purposes, pending the review of this unit standard.

3Definitions

Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements.

Service information may include but is not limited to – technical information ofa vehicle, machine, or product detailing operation; installation and servicing procedures; manufacturer instructions and specifications; technical terms and descriptions; and detailed illustrations. This can be accessed in hard copy or electronic format and is normally sourced from the manufacturer.

4For this unit standard, it is essential that the practical assessment evidence is obtained in a motorsport team environment.

5The NZ Motor Industry Training Organisation Inc acknowledges the assistance provided by the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) in permitting their competency unit to be used as the basis for this unit standard. This unit standard is based on the unit of competency AURM3403A Collect and log motorsport data.

6Recommended entry information: Unit 23803, Demonstrate knowledge of competition race vehicle electronic data analysis systems.

Outcomes and performance criteria

Outcome 1

Prepare to collect competition race vehicle data.

Performance criteria

1.1Instructions and procedures to collect the data are identified in accordance with company requirements.

1.2Checklists and/or recording sheets are developed in accordance with company requirements.

1.3Equipment used to collect the data is checked for accuracy and prepared in accordance with company requirements.

Rangehook-up, calibration and synchronisation, system check, adjustments.

1.4Equipment is checked during trial runs in accordance with task and company requirements.

Rangefunction, accuracy, efficiency.

1.5Final adjustments to data analysis systems are made in accordance with company requirements.

Outcome 2

Record the competition race vehicle information for evaluation.

Performance criteria

2.1Data analysis system is operated in accordance with company requirements.

2.2Data is collected from the system and recorded in accordance with company requirements.

2.3Data is saved, stored, and labelled on CD or DVD for future reference in accordance with company requirements.

2.4Data variables, trends, and patterns are identified and checked for accuracy in accordance with company requirements.

2.5Data is presented ready for analysis in accordance with company requirements and system capabilities.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – graphs, tables, maps, averages and/or percentages, video and/or DVD presentation.
