We are DAVID’S BUILDERSof The Harvest Center! Our program uses science, technology, engineering, mathematics & design (STEM-D) as the framework to foster literacy skills,critical thinking, innovation and creativity. We advance educational equity by preparing children to become leaders, scholars, entrepreneurs and community builders.

SPECIAL EVENTS IN DECEMBER 2011
Entrepreneurship Day - Saturday, 12/03/11
We are thankful to Dr. Lisa Clark, Teacher with the NYC Board of Education for her inspiring workshop on entrepreneurship. We learnt the basics of what is necessary to become an entrepreneur. We also celebrated the birthday of Builder NkemNnadiri after the program cheering him as he cut the cake above. Happy Birthday Nkem!
Savings & Investments Day: Saturday, 12/17/11
We are thankful to Honorable Conrad Powell, President of SideWalk University & Founder of RDS Investment Club for his awesome workshop on savings and investments. We hope to put into action what we learnt in saving for our upcoming mission trip to Nigeria in 2013. Participating Builders received an autographed copy of Hon. Howell’s book as a holiday gift together with a school bag with school supplies courtesy of Better Education for Kids, Inc.

Building Bridges With Technology
In line with our mission of using STEM-D to foster leadership, scholarship and community building, we will be going on our 1steducational exchange trip in summer 2013 to Nigeria (1st & 2nd week of July). Participating builders must be at least 11 years by 06/30/13. Each builder will work with a partner child in a selected school in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria, to share technological, scientific and cultural learning experiences and will travel with a laptop to donate to the school for use by their partner child.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
1stMeeting – Saturday, 01/28/12
We are thankful to Evangelist BisiChukwudili of Life-Choice for her enriching workshop on 01/28, on the history, culture and music of the Yoruba people as it pertains to worship. We learned many interesting facts, one of which is that there are more Yoruba’s outside Nigeria today than within Nigeria who are still practicing aspects of Yoruba culture and religion. She will be back again on Saturday, 02/25, to continue with the 2nd part of this workshop which will emphasize dancing.
2nd Meeting – Saturday, 02/04/12
We learned about the work of the National Aeronautical Space Association (NASA) and about all the African-American Astronauts that have ever worked for NASA. We are thankful also to Elder Sam Makinde for his seminar on goal setting and lifestyles in achieving academic success and to brother Kacious for his motivational talk on the significance of coming for our Saturday program with basic learning supplies to cut down on program costs.
3rd Meeting – Saturday, 02/18/12
We will brainstorm on ways to actively raise funds for Nigeria:2013. Brother Kacious will give a workshop on circles and their relationship to the irrational number pi. We will learn about importance aspects of leadershipthrough biographies of the late IkembaOdumegwuOjukwu, the former head of state of Biafra, who recently passed away and is due to be laid to rest in his home town Nnewi, Anambra State, Nigeria. May his soul rest in peace. Special thanks to Peter Opera whose book The Man of Biafra will be used to draw aleadership link between OjukwuGeorge Washington, Sir Winston Churchill and Charles De Gaule. This will provide a history lesson on Biafra. “To live through a catastrophe is bad; to forget it is worse.” – Eli e Wisel, Holocaust Survivor & Nobel Laureate.
