A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of James Edward Hardy III.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to James Edward Hardy III, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, James Edward Hardy III was born on July 6, 1926, a native of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on February 7, 2001; and

WHEREAS, James Edward Hardy III was the loving son of the late James Edward Hardy II and Lois Clark Hardy; he was the devoted husband of Barbara Brown Hardy, and he was the loving father of two daughters, Susan D. Hardy and Jane W. Hardy, and a son, J. Edward Hardy IV; he was the loving brother of a sister, Jean H. Licklider, and he was the proud grandfather of a grandson; and

WHEREAS, James Edward Hardy III was a devout member of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, and he served his country with distinction in the United States Army during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, James Edward Hardy III will best be remembered as leaving a legacy of leadership accomplishments, and for his generosity as a philanthropist; he was an esteemed member of the Jefferson County community where he was chairman of the board and former president of the Brinly-Hardy Company, the oldest, continuous family-owned business in Kentucky; he was a board member and former chairman of the boards of the Louisville Science Center and the Fund for the Arts; a member of the boards of the Episcopal Church Home and The Louisville Nature Center; a state trustee for Ducks Unlimited; a founding member of the Bluegrass Chapter of Young Presidents Organization; and he was a member of the Helium Club, the Louisville Country Club, the Winn-stay Club, and Princeton University and Woodbury Forest Preparatory School Alumni associations; and

WHEREAS, the passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness James Edward Hardy III brought to this Commonwealth will never be forgotten, and his influence will continue through his loving family and all the lives he touched; and

WHEREAS, the passing of James Edward Hardy III has left a void that can never be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of James Edward Hardy III, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of James Edward Hardy III.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Barbara Brown Hardy, 3919 Ormond Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40207.
