Course Description
Students will develop an understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and its application to secondary education, postsecondary education, and the workplace. Students apply technical skills to create word-processing documents, develop a spreadsheet, formulate a database, and make an electronic presentation using appropriate software.

Supplies
Black or blue pen, folder, and planner. Optional: USB flash drive (also known as a "thumb drive")
Grading
The student’s grade will be based on classroom work, class participation, tests, and projects. (Daily Work 50%, Tests 30%, and Timed Typings/Warm-ups 20%) ALL WORK SHOULD BE FINISHED IN CLASS All make-up work should be done before or after school. It will be the student’s responsibility to see that all make-up work is completed within the specified time.

The workplace skills assessment program (WASP) prepares students to succeed and assess real world business skills and problem solving abilities in finance, management, IT, computer applications.
Course Requirements
This course is recommended for students in Grades 9-12. Recommended prerequisite: Touch Systems Data Entry. Recommended Equipment: 100% computer lab usage required. Software Required: Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Database and Presentation Microsoft Office Package or Similar. Optional Equipment: Projection System, Scanner, Document Camera, Microphones, Headsets, Digital Camera.
Classroom Expectations and Rules
- Be in assigned seat when tardy bell rings.
- No cell phones, electronic games/devices, or CD’s visible in the computer lab.
- No gum, food, or drinks in the computer lab. (Bottled water is allowed.)
- Students will not visit websites that are inappropriate for the classroom setting.
- Students will be held responsible for the computer, textbook, and furniture at his/her workstation.
- Students will leave each workstation clean each day.
- Students will remain seated until the dismissal bell rings.
Outline of Class
1st 6 Weeks: Student will learn about basic technology concepts including operating systems, utilities and basic hardware concepts. Students will also learn how to format and produce business documents using Microsoft Word.
2nd & 3rd 6 Weeks: Students will continue to learn about business environments and apply those to the use of different technologies. While exploring different business environments the students will utilize business mathematics while using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software.
4th 6 Weeks: Students will learn about research management, database management, and using Microsoft Access.
5th 6 weeks: Students will be learning and demonstrating basic presentation concepts and utilization of Microsoft PowerPoint.
6th 6 weeks: Students will learn to integrate all Microsoft products and utilize them in business environments.
