Reading a Map

Instructions: Please give me the following information using the Utah Map provided. Use the map legend in the upper right corner of the map to help you. Also you can use the index on the bottom of the map and the information on the front of the map.

1.  What are the five interstate highways that run through Utah? Solid dark green lines on the map (Write the number)

2.  Write down the name of the county that you are in and what counties surround it. County boundaries are gray, County names in Gray ALL CAPS (Hint: This was a bell ringer last week)

3.  Write down two scenic byways. Dots next to the road (Write the number)

4.  Is Utah on Pacific Standard Time or Mountain Standard Time? (Look at the blue stars on the Utah/Nevada Border, you will see the answer at the bottom left corner of the map)

5.  What are the names of all the Indian Reservations in Utah? (Purple areas on the map)

6.  Write down the names of all the National Forests in Utah. (Light green areas on the map, the name of the National Forests are dark green, ALL CAPS)

7.  For the following towns write down what the population and elevation is and what county it is in: (Look at the index on the bottom of the map. In the section where it says Cities you will find all the towns listed below. Right next to the name of the town is a number. That is the population. The next number is the elevation. A few spaces over from the name of the town is a coordinate with a letter and a number. The letters are on long sides of the map. The numbers are on the short sides of the map. Find where the letter and number meet on the map and the town you are looking for should be in that area. The boundaries for the counties are gray. The name of the county is gray, ALL CAPS)
