Ball Bouncing Project Outline
q Title Page
q Introduction: Rewrite the original project description sheet in your own words. You must include a brief discussion on
o Dependent and independent variables
o Controls
o Possible sources of error
o Precision and accuracy of your measurements
q Data Table: Must include all measurements
q Summary Numbers Page: Must include
o Three measures of central tendency & standard deviation
o 5 number summary
o Range
o A statement on what a typical bounce height is, overall, regardless of drop height, and an explanation of why you think so
q Box and Whisker Plot: Include an explanation of what the graph tells you
q Stem and Leaf Plot: Include an explanation of what the graph tells you
q Histogram: Include an explanation of what the graph tells you
q Normal Distribution: Draw a normal curve using your calculated mean and standard deviation. (Assume that the data are normally distributed… there are 240 numbers!)
o Make up and answer 3 questions related to the normal curve.
q Scatterplot:
o Do drop height (x) vs. bounce height (y)
o Write the equation of the best-fit line. Feel free to use a calculator, but draw a neat scatterplot on your own.
o Use the average bounce height from each drop height column so that you only have to plot 12 points.
o Extrapolate the bounce height from a drop height of 6.0 m.
q Conclusion: State any miraculous findings and draw conclusions.
q Self- and/or Peer-evaluations: the teacher will tell you more about this later.
There will be ten pages in total.
One project is to be handed in per group of two or three people. It will be due about a week after the winter holiday break is over. You may want to start your good copy early!
This project holds the same weight as a test, so it can really bring up your grade! Everyone is capable of at least a 90% on this !!J
