That’s how 2006 promises to be for Gold Coast Gyro club

Treasurer

he upcoming months.

Secretary &This team faces some heavy-duty problems, and

Newsletter Editor

Jim Sheremeta my last request to you, as your President, is that you pitch in to help them.

e desperately need a new location. The Beachcomber is being torn down.

March will likely be our last meeting there. The question of geographic location will loom large in their search.

Now that a club constitution has at last been found, it appears to need updating to reflect the club as it now

exists. Everyone needs to know how, when and what needs to be done. For instance, I could find no one who could

tell me who, how and when our annual elections were to be handled.

Monthly socials will be an area for discussion. Where club socials were once booked almost a year in advance,

only January and December are certain as of this writing. The question of “dual hosting” also needs resolution. Should

this become the norm?

As I join the ranks of Past Presidents, I want to thank all of you for creating such a great year. But special

Thanks go to VP Paul Sullivan, Treasurer Gil Perez and Secretary Jim Sheremeta for their assistance & cooperation.

We are all fortunate to have been invited to join this fraternity of friendship. As this year comes to a close

I invite you to ponder on the impact of what “Gyrodom” has had on your life….and challenge you to pass

along this golden experience to some lucky individual in the coming year. Happy Holidays! John B.

December 9thChristmasdinnerparty at the Evans

The October13thFounders Day celebration dinner meeting at the Beachcomber was attended by 15 members & 3 visiting Gyros from Palm Beaches.

Pete Belding International 3rd VP brought greetings & news from International. He will be the installing officer for the District X April 28-30 convention at the Seagate in Delray Beach. Our convention is the last function at the Seagate before the tear down & million $$ condo project. All convention rooms are suites and the buffet will be at the pool. Registration info will be sent out in January with an early bird discount for quick responders.

Tom Bringley reminded us that the Halloween party on the 22ndwill be a costume contest with a $100 gift certificate to Jackson Steak House to the best individual costume. Matt & Robin are co-hosting.

The Irelands Inn dinner was well received, excellent food & service. Thank you to Tom Evans.

Gordon gave us a concise trip down memory lane recounting the intent of Gyro founders Schwan, Handerson & Kagy in establishing our organization of friendship and the 3 Ps power, poise & purpose.

The 2009 International Convention…will be hosted by our club. Gordon has been contacting cruise lines to check out the feasibility & pricing of doing a cruise. Last time in 1990 too many Gyros waited too late to book & we could not get space on the ship, even though there were 1100 attendees.

The October 22nd Halloween party was a great success. Pictures of that costumed eventare included in this newsletter. In spite of Hurricane Wilma about to arrive, Tom & Emmy with help from Matt & Robin pulled off another spectacular party. Congrats to Ron Leininger & Tom Bringley co-winners of the best costume event. They subsequently double dated with their spouses to spend the certificate & more.

The November 10th meetingwas attended by the usual suspects minus Ed Ritter & yours truly who had literally

just returned from a cruise & long flight from Barcelona early that AM & got our first look at Wilma’s wrath.

November 22ndwas our Thanksgiving party. Great location, great eats, & great fellowship.

Thank you Roger, Patricia, Gordon & Giselle !!!

The December 8thmeeting was attended by 17 members & 2 guests. Attorney Bob Kelly was revisiting &

Jay Patel Manager of Capital Investments was introduced as Rob’s guest.

In spite ofonly emergency lighting we saw that Tom Evans & Bob Miller had no badges and Tom Bringley was too late in finding his. Fines were imposed for all. Tom’s suggestion that the restaurant call an electrician when they explained that they still could not find the problem after weeks of searching was very appropriate.

A calendar social event discussion ensued. The previous newsletter page includes definite events for some months with others still to be finalized. Get ready for Ron & Jeanette’s NFL party on January 21st.

The Calgary Gyro club sent raffle tickets to all Gyro clubs to defray the registration cost of the July 20-23 International convention that they are hosting. Our club bought the 20 tickets and needed more. John will request same.

The highlight of the evening was President John Buckle’s song & dance routine as he explained the election and take office process for club officers using the club constitution & last year’s precedent for his position that this was to be his last meeting as club President.

He proposed the following slate of officers for 2006 who would take office at the January 12th meeting, even though the “official” installation was scheduled for February 5th.

PresidentPaul Sullivan

Vice PresidentRon Kraus

TreasurerGil Perez

SecretaryJim Sheremeta

Matt moved the slate with a second from Tom Evans. Surprise, surprise the motion was unanimously carried.

The 3 for $2 raffle was won by President John. There is no truth to the rumor that he pulled his own….ticket.

Late arrival Ken Mayfield was brought into an amusing discussion by Tom Evans regarding a REALLLY BIGGGG hurricane debris removalTruck sighting. Your Secretary was able to track this down & got an exclusive photo which is pictured later in this newsletter.

We wish Jim weaver well & a speedy recovery from his upcoming surgery.

Thanks to Roger & Gordon on an excellent November party.

Adjournment at 8:13 PM

The December 10th Christmas dinner party was hosted byRob Silk. A total of 35 attendees enjoyed the excellent roast beef and a multitude of accompaniments. Visiting Palm Beach Gyros included Dick & Jaye Hopkins, Pete & Linda Belding and Dick & Ellie Lewis. Pictures are below & later in this issue as well.

Tom & the Blonde

Tom, a handsome dude, walked into a sports bar around 9:58 PM. He sat down next to this blonde at the bar and stared up at the TV. The 10:00 PM news was on. The news crew was covering a story of a man on a ledge of a large building preparing to jump. The blonde looked at Tom and said,” Do you think he’ll jump?”

Tom says, “You know, I bet he’ll jump.”

The blonde relied, “Well, I bet he won’t.”

Tom placed a $20 bill on the bar and said, “You’re on!”

Just as the blonde placed her money on the bar, the guy on the ledge did a swan dive off of the building, plummeting to his death.

The blonde was very upset and handed her $20 to Tom, saying, “Fair’s fair. Here’s your money.”

Tom replied, “I can’t take your money. I saw this earlier on the 5 o’clock news and so I knew that he would jump.”

The blonde replies, “I did too; but I didn’t think he’d do it again.”

Tom took the money!!

Shhhhhh be Quiet !

A father & son went hunting together for the first time. The father said “Stay here and be very QUIET. I’ll be across the field”

A few minutes later the father heard a blood curdling scream and ran back to his son. “What’s wrong?” the father asked. “I told you to be quiet.”

The boy, bless his heart answered;

“Look, I was quiet when the snake slithered across my feet.

I was quiet when the bear breathed down my neck.

I didn’t move a muscle when the skunk climbed over my shoulder.

I closed my eyes and held my breath when the wasp stung me.

I didn’t cough when I swallowed the gnat.

I didn’t cuss or scratch when the poison oak started itching.

But when the two chipmunks crawled up my pant legs and said,

‘ should we eat them here or take them with us?’……..Well, I guess I just panicked.”
