Position:Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN)

Essential Qualifications:

1)Compassion, passion and empathy for the clients served by the facility.

2)Current and clear nursing license issued by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.

3)Must be able to pass the requirements of a criminal background check.

4)Related experience preferred – such as psychiatric nursing, other detox experience.

5)Knowledge of disease of chemical dependency and self-help groups preferred.

6)Communication skills

7)If a former patient, must have been discharged for at leasttwo years.

Accountability and supervision: LVN’s are directly responsible to their program managers.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Adhere to patient confidentiality guidelines and maintain a professionalrelationship with staff and patients.
  • Report any allegations or suspicions of patient abuse, neglect, or exploitationto the Program Manager or Chief Executive Officer immediately and participatein any investigations as required.
  • Attend all required in-services and training per DSHS guidelines.
  • Admission – evaluate patient needs as outlined in Detox standing orders.
  • Evaluate patient behavior, progress, and physical condition daily.
  • ChartingVital signs.
  • Communicate with Charlie’s Place office and counselors.
  • Supervise SATs as they assist patients to keep neat and clean.
  • Notify Program Manager when medical and office supplies get low.
  • Answer telephones as needed as well as after 5pm and on weekends.
  • Take screenings of prospective patients when needed.
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of any complaints from patients and Detox staff.
  • Dispense medication and treatment as prescribed by the physician.
  • Other duties as assigned by CEO or other management.

  • Tasks to be performed in a residential, office, or outdoor setting.

Physical Demands

  • Requires mobility and physical activity: having and adequate range of body motion and mobility work in an office, residential, or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required.
  • Requires talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work. Talking required to impart oral information to employees, clients and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Requires hearing: hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.
  • Requires seeing: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at a distance. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employee’s essential job functions and to observe client behavior and activities in and out of the facility.
  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids, or tissues. However, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment such as patient accident or patient sickness. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee.

Mental Demands

  • Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions.
  • Requires the ability to work and cooperate with clients, co-workers, managers, the public and employees at all levels in order to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions.
  • The ability to defend oneself and clients in mentally/verbally abusive situations through the use of approved mental/verbal de-escalation techniques.
