Summer Language Arts Requirements

Students are required to read at least 2 books from the following sources: the Nutmeg Book Award nominees, to Office of Evangelical . Incoming 6th graders may select from the intermediate or elementary list (depending on the child’s reading needs). Incoming 7th graders may select from the intermediate list, and 8th graders may select from the intermediate or teen list. The lists are below. We suggest parents help choose suitable books for their child. The following website is a good source for parents and students.

https://www.commonsensemedia.org/

When you enter the title, the site gives a brief summary of the book, as well as informs you of any language, violence, or difficult topics that may be included. Please take a few moments to read through the book previews and choose books that interest you. Since the Nutmeg nominee books are relatively new, not all titles are currently available on this website. We suggest you check the site frequently for updates.

Please note: If your child cannot find a book which appeals to them from the Nutmeg titles, they can consult the Office of Catholic Schools’ reading list (available on our web pages) or ask the children’s librarian at the local library for some suggestions.

The summer writing requirements related to the title your child reads (attached and also available on our webpages) will support activities planned for the first week of school.
